Default 93lude vtec; oil light came on, then engine died with a smell?

when the oil light was flashing. i checked the oil dip stick and it showed full. sometimes it'll stop flashing and then it'll flash again. I kept on checkin the oil and it's still good. So i ignore it and then after driving it for 100 miles, engine dies on me on the highway with a wierd smell. what is wrong? my engine blown?

my guess is that your oil pump went.

I agree your pump probably died... light came no because there was low pressure... and you just killed your engine from oil starvation. But hopefully you had better luck than that and it's not totally screwed up. I'd say you're gonna need new bearings though.

i agree, sounds like your pump gear broke. if you drove 100 miles w/ no pressure, you will need a new motor because your crank journals will be destroyed as well as your cams and cam journals.

engine is toast, crank journals are probably mashed;
need bearings, and your camshafts are probably powder.
it didn't throw a check engine at any time during this?
rebuild or new motor time

damn! so if your oil light goes on.. and it is due to pump failure.. should you stop the car and tow! how long does it take to damage the engine, or does the starvation occur instantly?

i dont think he beat on it for those 100 miles. he might have thrown a rod bearing and seized the engine. tear it apart and go from their

you can pin point it easily. make sure theres enough oil in the engine.
if its low, add oil and see if the light goes off. if its full and the light stays on then get it towed.

not necessarily. the oil light just means low pressure. it could be a pump or the oil is so low that the pump isnt pumping anything. but in hoeboy's case, its the pump

i would check by putting a mechanical gauge on and seeing forsure what the pressure is and then go from there. just for ***** and giggles it could be just a flaky sensor or bad connection

100 miles seems a little long to go with out a pump???you didnt here any knocking sound??what happens when you try to start it know? in any case if it is the pump you will need new crank ,,bearings possible rods unless salvageable cams and rockers minimum.

Hey OP--

Any chance you had an Unorthodox underdrive pulley or something like that? It's a little unusual for an oil pump to die, wondering if there was some other cause..
