exhaust, there are no stupid questions, only stupid people
ok so im new, big deal.
im in need of a complete exhaust for a 91 model crx si. from the manifold back. i have been looking around and there is a variety. now i realize i can get just about any "can" piped to fit my rex. but i HATE that tin sound, and i dont like rice. i dont care what it looks like as long as its daily driveable and doesnt sound like ****. also to be considerd is performance. i have a d16 and a b16 motor (2 rexxes). i have vauge notions about free flow and back pressure. but no understanding of them. here is what i have seen and i would value some real opinions on what sounds good and what is made well.
specifically for a crx i have seen "buddy Club spec II" or spec III exhausts
something called a "thermal" catback
Magnaflow
mugen - twin loop
comptech
rs*r invidia (that was for a 98 civic)
or i could just go to advance and buy one of theirs.
what do the experts recommend?

RS*R Ex Mag is what i would reccomend. Nice deep sound and not very loud at all. Painted flat black to kind of keep it under the radar. i know some places cops will mess with you just because your exhaust i polished and looks loud.
Thermal R&D in my opinion is the best exhaust but it is also pricy, I have had it on my car with my D16a6, sounded good, nice tone, I didn't have a cat so it sounded a little raspy once I swapped to my B18b it sounded even better the B18 had a lower exhaust note and a very nice sound to it, and now with the B18b Turbo it sounds even better I have a 3" downpipe into a 3" high flow cat an then into the thermal and I think my car sounds amazing, no ricy sound, not raspy, a nice deep tone...
With all the different motors/setups the Thermal sounds quiet at idle a little louder than stock and even in low rpms it isn't to much louder than stock but once you WOT it screams and performance wise I'd say it is great do some researh on it, I know when i was looking for parts on crx.honda-perf.org everyone there always said it was a great exhaust

A few weeks ago I was asking myself the same questions you were, and also hated the tinny sound that a lot of fart can custom bent setups have. I ended up going to an exhaust shop and having 2.25" pipe press bent from the cat back to a dynomaxx super turbo muffler.
You said you wanted it from the mani back, so you'd have to buy a high-flow cat and carry it and the muff to the shop. Then you tell him what you want and he makes it exactly to your specs.
The whole setup cost me 170 bucks, and it sounds really mellow. during normal driving, shifting at 3k it only sounds a little deeper and louder than stock, but at WOT it gets a great sounding scream to it that I love.
Here's a picture, I'm spraying it flat black when it gets a little warmer out. I didn't get a tip, no bling for me.

Tons of people including myself have magnaflow for their CRX its a nice tone...pretty cheap as well. Mugen Twin Loop
good luck finding one and not getting raped for the price

the twin loop would also have to be chopped up and rewelded to fit under the crx's bumper sideways like the stock bumper. twin loop=not a sideways muffler

i have the exact same setup, dynomax superturbo, and i am really really happy with it. it sounds freakin awesome.. exactly what i was looking for, not raspy or buzzy at all. just a deep, smooth sound.

^^^^ See my reply above ^^^^ You may have to lengthen one for a hatch or have an extension welded onto your cat in order to fit the sedan, any muffler shop can do this for you for cheap.

get a thermal they make honda's not sound like honda's ! very nice and quiet till you get on it and then its a real low rumble, no rasp or rice sound. I loved the one on my integra, always got compliments from the mustang guys.

didn't read the whole tread,
someone might already said this, but :
if you got the money, get a thermal research and development, best exhaust for the money.
if you are on a budget : get a Kteller kit, cheap, and very good quality.
dont go bigger than 2.25 inch on a Stock head B16, or 2.00 with a great muffler on a D16.
Kteller sound's great with a Magnaflow muffler, ES oval are louder but perform the same.
hope this help !

Yea ya Hatian douche go back where ya came from.
I have a "custom" system made by hilltop muffler that I just removed from my 89 Hatch cat and everythin sitting at my house you can buy cheap. It worked great for my Y8 engine setup, but not for my Type R. I now have a KTeller weld up 2.5" with a Magnaflow resonator where the cat should go and a Magnaflow muffler in the back. Come by the next time your back in the burbs
