3rd gen luders......
whats the best swap and easiest swap for a 88-91 lude? friend has one wants to be fast and keep the 3rd gen. i love the body style my self i owned 3 before i got into racing. i m tryin to find out if theres an engine that bolts in and i know u can add a vtec head but how hard is it compared to ls/vtec? and lastly who makes the best kits for an h22/23 swap?
i owned one as well. i would only do two things with a 3rd gen as far as engine, and those are:
1. turbo from http://www.ludespeed.com
using the stock motor, and if it blows who cares. you can get a used JDM motor for $300-400.
2. VTEC conversion also from ludespeed. it would be something like CRV/VTEC.
you would use your stock block and B16A head. for more details check out ludespeed web page.
i personally wouldn't do any swaps on that model.

your best bet would be to go with the turbo set-up for that motor. you can do the h22 swap, but it gets costly. there are at least two people who have done that here on honda-tech, and both have said it is pretty much expensive and a lot of work. as of right now, the best bang for the buck out of those motors is to put the turbo from ludespeed on it.
From what i have seen the turbo kit just hasnt performed well....The creator of Hondaprelude.com has some problems... and i have seen dynos..for the money the power isnt that great...except for one guy here local in GA...he has a fully built b20 with that turbo...and i will admit that he will most likely hand me my *** in a race...As far as the b16 head swap...i personally just cant trust that and there arent many people around that have that done..so i couldnt really get solid info on that.....so i opted to go all out and drop in a built JDM H22A in my 3rd gen. The H22 swap is a bitch...and the only company that makes a bolt in kit is place racing....as far as place goes...check my sig...but so far so good i havent had many problems out of the swap....oh yea..there is goin to be noticeable understeer..but relocating the battery will take away a good amount of weight off the front.
