Default Hitting VTEC during cold startup

Crap, the thread title is probably the ricest thread Ive ever made.

This is really odd. I know there are countless "how come I cant hit VTEC when cold...."

Well, I dont know what to say but I can? How the heck is that possible?

Yeh, hitting VTEC and running your engine hard when its cold is a great, did you just fall out of a tree?

Higher than normal oil pressure for some reason? Maybe high viscosity oil?

itrdc2r needs to sit back and read for a while, but that is strange, maybe has something to do with the neptune

Probably a setting in NepTune. I have NepTune as well, but I havent tested this and dont plan to

when you say cold, do you mean immediately after starting the car with no warm up time? are you running a stock thermo? maybe the car is warming up more than you think it is?

I'm guessing it has to do with the ECU. Disconnect your VSS and see if you can hit VTEC also.

I'd wait a lot longer than that. Water and oil temp gauges dictate it can take as long as 20mins depending on weather conditions....

but hey...it's your motor and your money.

as for VTEC activating when cold..it's probably because you have, as others have mentioned, a non factory ecu.

USDM ecus look at water temp as an indicator for whether or not VTEC will activate. JDM ecus along with aftermarket ones do not have this "safety/idiot" feature.

Yeah, I garuntee it's because of the Neptune. Stock ECU won't try to switch to the high cam when the motor is cold, when the car isn't moving, when oil pressure is low, etc....

Pressure is high when the motor is cold, so I figure the OEM ECU is going off of a water temp sensor at warmup.

The vtec solenoid is controlled by the factory ECU of when to engage.
Most aftermarket piggyback's, em's, have the ability to change the vtec engagement point, but put no control on when the vtec solenoid is actually engaged (i.e. oil pressure, temperature).

Why are you revving so high when your motor is cold -_-

There are a lot of n00bs who think they are the **** in the ITR forum lately. I find it rather humorous.

I have very little to add since i agree with a majority of what has been said. Probably due to NepTune.

You can do that with the Mugen ECU as well (since it doesn't check all the temp and pressure things, or OBD).

Does the Hondata still check temps? I would assume it would since it's basically a modded OEM ECU anyway?
