Default JDM Civic K20A3 for Type-R K20A

Hi guys,

I'm new here. I'm from Singapore and I've just got my ride last year April. Been trying to find out how to get the Type-R K20A with 220bhp to replace my JDM K20A3 engine bay...

I believe our car is on e-throttle and Type-R K20A is on cable-throttle. Is there any way that I could swop the engine?

Thanks.
Ed.

youd be better off swapping the throttle body and getting some cams...

Yeah... that's what one of my mate told me... but you still won't get a 65bhp boost. I'm currently looking at some Stage-2 cams and GReddy TC. But some parts of me wana have a little fun with NA.

just out of curiosity, why do you want to do that and all of that work?

cuz me personally, i'd be extremely happy that my EX came with a k20a3... at least that is something to work with, instead i have this new R-series wonder

You would definately be in the 220WHP range if you got stage two cams and a cable throttle body... dont forget you will need a RSX-S ECU for that. 02-04 i believe.

Oic... for a stage-2 cam change I need to re-tune my ECU? Or is it easier and better to have a RSX-S ECU?

This might be a lil' off topic, but I am researching a swap with a K20Z3 into a EK. The e-throttle system is in the K20Z3, but if you use the K-pro ECU to which is drive cable-throttle, would your gauge cluster still work?

Kpro will not work on the Z3 because of DBW (drive by wire) which is the electronic throttle. This is why you have to swap throttle bodies and ECUs so you get maching hardware/software. Hondata is rumored to be working on "I-Pro" for the DBW cars but I really havent heard much about it.

If you switch to cable throttle, you WILL have to get the other ECU. Yours wont do the trick. As far as i know, the clusters will still work. But im no expert there.

On the same motor that's in the base model RSX and the EP3 Si's, I don't think so?!?!?
65 HP from cams and throttle body? That's FI territory!!

Hondata is supposed to be coming up with a DBW solution for the K-Pro. If you were just dying to swap now, you could always use the Z3 manifold and ECU on that K20a until better engine management is available. 200HP is better than 160HP

Coz if I were to start my modifications from a K20Z3, I'll be starting from 155bhp base. But if I were to drop in a K20A, I'm starting from 220bhp base and I could go even higher.

Please advice. Thanks.

K20a3=160hp
K20z3=197hp

The vtec doesn't even function the same way.. the a3 actually runs as a 12 valve motor part of the time and then switches to 16 valve.

if any of you guys caught the last issue of honda tuning... they swapped a K20A-R into the sedan, swapped some forged slugs from an s2000 and a 6 speed gearbox from the DC5... they're getting 245hp.... ouch!

but hey... if you got the money... get that type-r motor and swap it in... then keep your k20z3 and build an F/I setup or go all motor on that thing.

K20a3 was the engine we got in our 02-05 civic si (hatchback) (160 hp)
K20z3 is the engine in our new Si (coupe & 4 door) (197 hp)

Not even close to the same motor.

I have the same engine K20a3 , it pushes 155hp stock.

So far the possible tweaks i've heard of are the Si Intake Manifold, and supposedly the headers and catbacks for the Si will fit too.

Does anyone know what gains i'll be getting by swapping the intake manifold? (low end power?) Supposedly with the Si manifold on, you can then add a CAI.

The reason i've been holding out on the manifold is because if I go supercharged later it would be useless to me. But if it has its pros I'm still considering.
