Default My TYPE R feels slow

ok, guys now dont get me wrong or anything, i love my R with all i got and i would never hate on its performance, but for what i got into the motor it does not pull the way it should, MODS: JUN III cams and CAMSHAFT Skunk valves & springs, Skunk retainers, JUN header, AEM cai and a test pipe, also the head has been ported out, no VTEC controller or anything. . .i got a ride in my guys car he has a jdm gsr motor swapped into a EG and its got a tanabe cat with a short ram and he street tuned it, his car pulled pretty nicely and vtec hit alot better in his ride, way better then mine, ya i know there is quite a weight difference between the EG's and DC2's nothing major but its still a difference. i just really dont think i am putting down my cars full potenial, so i dunno guys help me out here maybe i need a nice tune up and decent exhaust system or maybe i should get into tuning but either way, my car doesnt pull the way it should. . . any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Get the car tuned if its not already tuned. You should feel a considerable power gain from just that.

Put the car on the dyno and see what numbers you want to gain out of it.

Then I think you have one of those rare 2.0L JDM B18C5 motors.

Motor is rated for 195HP at the crank, given drivetrain loss, WHP should be north of 160 at a minimum.

Of course, all this depends on which dyno you use.

How are you running " jun III cams and jun CAMSHFT" ? You have 3 do you ? I do'nt really understand that statement.

Who ported the head ? what do you mean by ported out ? The cylinder head is the most important part of your engine, the itr head is pretty decent out of the box it would have been quite sufficient for your setup.

IMHO this is a case of a slapped together setup with no knowledge or planning behind it. I'd be willing to bet that it prolly makes less power than his stock itr motor did.

A bunch of parts slapped together with no tuning are never gonna make any power.

Get it on the dyno, get a hondata or crome setup and then have the god damn thing tuned.

If I were in your shoes I would feel lucky to hit 165whp as your baseline pull.

im pretty sure he means jun cams and gears. what else could it be? from the info that you gave us, its going to be hard to suggest anything but getting it tuned with dyno runs.

Why do you suggest s200 over s100 or s300?

really souned like the right thing to say at the time. . . . but serioulsy it offers more diaognostic tuning over the s100 and the s300 is more for the heavly tuned or some one who does lots and lots of tuning so i guess you could say maybe he should go with the s100 because if he has no experience no tuning in any kind of way then the s200 maybe to much and the s300 is for the more experienced tuners, it offfers way to many options just for a basic tuning set-up, does that answer your question. or did you think i was completely full of **** and didnt know what i was talking about

LOL, wasn't sure if you knew the OP and that he was going to do his own tuning. If he's not, there's not really a need for the added expense of the s200 or s300.

ya that is true thats why he could actually go with either the S100 or S200 depend on how far he is going to take the tuning, but what are your feeling toward chrome tuning products ? i have heard lots of different stories, seems as if your either tuned on chrome or hondata kinda like a HONDA / nissan thing ya know ?

Chrome is decent, but doesn't have the support of having an actual business such as Hondata does.

Give the guy a break....

Try these things:
1. check ignition timing
2. replace spark plugs
3. get it tuned properly!

That's how I went from my "slow" type R (130 whp) to 180whp

thanks alot guys for all the suggestions, i think i might take the car to AMS to get Dyno tuned but i am running stock c5 pistons and there is no engine management sysytem currently but i wil be picking up a VAFC jus to help out a lil, but damn for what i got i didnt realize it would take such a negitive affect as to almost losing power . i really hate this weather here in chicago it limits alot of what i can do, hopefully i will be buying alot of OEM tune up parts and some after market parts to help cope with the power better plugs wires new water pump timimg belt **** like that so i get some power out of anywhere before the dyno runs, but again thanks guys you been allotta help and ill be sure to keep it posted what i pull on the dyno hopefully in the low 200's but i am really unsure. . . any body suggest for a mild street tune to run the VAFC and get a AIR/FUEL gauge and just tune it of those two ?

do not get a vafc. get crome or hondata at least. go to http://www.whipfactory.com/ since you're in chicago.

Put it on a dyno and get a power measure!

Mine is probably making low 190s to the wheels and it scares the **** out of me
