Default Integra guys dont feel VTEC, Prelude guys get a big grin with VTEC...Why?

The GSR Integra guys dont feel much of a kick from VTEC. I did some search and see it come up quite often that someone asking in the integra forum becuase they do not feel the VTEC kick in. They claim that if it properly tuned, you are not 'supposed' to feel it kick in because it is a smooth transition.
My best friend have 97 H22A 5spd with intake, and VTEC gives a VERY NICE kick with a big grin on my face. I have a 98 H22A auto with exhaust, and it gives a big grin on my face when VTEC kicks in and I feel the punch back in the seat as well.

My question is, are we Preludes really not properly tuned VTEC to cause it to kick in power when VTEC engages? Would a VTEC controller to lower the point of engagement of VTEC smooth out the power curve more to give a more uniform power band?

How many of us would give up that big VTEC kick to have a smoother power curve that you dont feel VTEC, but have a better power band?

I'd say displacement, and GSR's VTEC is staged isn't it? But yes well tuned engines where the VTEC has also been higher/lowered then no you shouldn't feel it.

I've driven a Teg with an LSVTEC setup and I noticed
it didn't quite kick like the ol LUDE.

That's kind of funny because I also notice this as well riding in my friend's GSR more often now. I have a H22A, and he has B18c1. I always thought that it was something to do with my block being a jdm and his a usdm. For the most part I think it has something to do with displacement as well.

Whenever you take tuning classes, they teach to tune Vtec to kick in smoothly, how smooth depends alot on cams. H22 s usually sound louder when Vtec kicks in, and that is displacement, but since noone has stock exhaust anymore, the teg will be louder in some cases.

Your not going to gain anything by lowering the vtec engagement point. You would have to properly tune that car with fuel changes as well to lower vtec to get a smoother crossover.

Its all abuot fuel economy vs. power.. Thats why they set it up that way stock... Plus, its easier to market the H22 if VTEC actually means something....

that "kick" isn't good for roadracers.....which is why its good to smooth it out the engagement.

also, celica gts's have a wayy bigger kick than almost all the h22's i've driven
