The authoritative DNS server is ns1.rely.net (66.81.238.245) which appears to be an OPEN DNS server, and will do recursive lookups (there may be a reason for this, but is unlikely). That's probably the issue, H-T should take that up with their host, and see if there is excessive load on DNS queries.
Also, another thing I noticed, ns2.rely.net is reporting as a parent server but is missing as a nameserver, which causes even more load on ns1.rely.net. They should really get the records fixed.
See, this is what I get to do at work all day

I don't understand the part that is italicized and bolded.

It means that anyone in the world can do dnslookups through ns1.rely.net
for instance, on your computer right now, you can find out what yahoo's IP address is, THROUGH ns1.rely.net
nslookup yahoo.com ns1.rely.net
That puts load on the DNS server, if a bunch of people were doing that at once, it could cause the site to fail.
when looking at the A records for the host it shows that both ns1.rely.net and ns2.rely.net are the parent servers, but only ns1.rely.net will do dns queries on the domain (name server) hence ns2.rely.net doesn't really do anything.
Anyway, these may or may not be a part of the problem happening today, I'm just stating it looks like it could be related, and is certainly not helping anything.

I'm more impressed with the amount of bandwidth H-T has. They get tons of traffic, and the site *usually* runs pretty quickly, as opposed to nasioc.com or some of the other mega forum sites.
