Rado Announces 2007 Drag Racing Program
02-27-2007 Hollywood Ca. Christian Rado released his plans for the 2007 drag racing season today. Rado will, once again, be competing in the NHRA Pro-FWD class in his Scion tC with backing from Scion USA, WORLD electronics, WORLD Motorsports, Bullseye Power, ACT Clutches, Sinister Racecars, Weisman, Momo, JE Pistons and Bosch.
After a groundbreaking end to the 2006 season Rado is looking forward to piloting his "Grim Reaper" Scion tC to even higher levels of performance in 2007.
"2006 was an exciting year for the team," Rado explained. "We didn't get the new car finished until the season was half over and we knew that it was going to be tough to get the car dialed in before the end of the year. Credit goes to my crew for all of the hard work and skill that it took to get the car running consistent seven-second passes as the season drew to a close. The final NHRA event of the year in Pomona was a great way for us to finish the year with a final round appearance and a personal best time of 7.65 seconds and a speed of 191.6 MPH.
With the 2007 season just around the corner we can take what we learned last year and build on a solid foundation to push the performance barriers even further this year. Our Scion tC is living up to expectations, it is the most stable race car I have ever driven and we are making plenty of horsepower so the basic setup is really close. At this stage we are making minor changes that will make our car a real threat against any opposition."
For the 2007 season the team lineup remains essentially the same albeit with a few changes to strengthen the team.
Frankie Piccone heads up the team as crew chief, general manager and clutch tuner. Gary Kubo will resume his duties as chief mechanic and will also be responsible for the team’s new internal engine building program. Eric Plebani will be resuming duties as a race mechanic, Tyler Cooley will be assisting as a race mechanic and the team’s truck driver will be Robert McLellan.
The team will also continue to use the expertise of Shane Tecklenburg of ST consulting on the engine management system and Dan Portera of Bullseye Power will be assisting the team.
"I am really pleased to be able to keep the same core group of team members that we had last year.” Rado said. "They all know the car and know exactly what it takes to go even faster so I am excited to be able to continue to work with such a professional group. We were able to identify a few areas that needed improvement or changes last year and the team is working hard to implement these things and get the car ready for some intensive pre-season testing. We are confident that we will be substantially faster in 2007 and the whole team is looking forward to making a serious attempt to win the championship for Scion."
The first event for the team will be the South Florida NHRA Sport Compact Nationals at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach Florida on March 31st - April 1st.
Rado is looking forward to getting behind the wheel again:
"I can't wait for the season to start. We have managed to put together a top-notch team and the car is capable of winning races so we are all determined to do our best to live up to our own expectations and those of our sponsors and the fans. The Pro-FWD class is going to be tough in 2007 with some new cars and a solid group of drivers. These are the fastest front-wheel-drive cars in the world and I have no doubts that everyone will be quicker than ever so the racing will be intense and the action will be awesome. At the moment our team is concentrating on making sure that we start the season strong and build momentum for a serious championship challenge.”
Rado concluded in his usual manner by thanking the people who support him and the WORLD Racing team. “Finally I would like to thank all of the people that have been so supportive and stepped up to help us put a great team and a great car together. Without these great people and companies none of this would be possible. Mark Templin, Steve Haig, Sheila Swanson, Steve Hatanaka and Lisa Materazzo at Scion: Thank you for your support and confidence. I also have to thank everyone at WORLD electronics, especially my Father, Mother and Sisters. Everyone at Bullseye Power, ACT Clutches, Sinister Racecars, Weisman, Momo, JE Pistons and Bosch. Thanks for your great products and continuing support.”
