Default Honda Civic 2006-2007 JDM Version NEED HELP!

Hello everyone,

I have a 2006 Honda Civic 2.0 Type-S genuine JDM version. The engine code is K20Z2, and produce only about 155hp. I did an modification by removing my K20Z2 OEM intake manifold and swap it with the K20Z3 intake manifold. Because the OEM K20Z3 intake manifold is a straighter thru design and can increase the hp by less retriction of the air flow compare to the OEM K20Z2 intake manifold.

THE PROBLEM:
However, there is a problem, after the installation is complete, the engine would start, but the rpm is unstable, the engine starts to rattle and shakes then the rpm drops down to zero.

If I step on the gas pedal, it would keep the engine alive, but after I release the gas pedal it starts to shake again then goes to zero.

All the component are exactly the same, all the valves are the same, and all the engine hardware are untouched and unmodified, just exchanging the intake manifold. The manifold gasket is the same, same size etc. The only difference is the coolant port or the manifold. Both Manifold has coolant port, however, the OEM K20Z2 has an extra hole on the coolant port, they said the use of it is to recycle/reuse the unused air, thus reducing the amount of Nitrous Oxide in the fresh air molecule, thus causing it to burn less fuel, and by doing this it will reduce the hp of the vehicle tremendously. The Si K20Z3 does not have the extra hole on the intake manifold. Could that be the problem causing the engine to rattle and goes to zero?

I know this is a tough questions because probably no on gets a chance to see the K20Z2 engine itself, but I'm just giving a try over here, anyone any help would be greatly apprieciated...

Anyway of fixing this problem?

Please help, thank you!

I had an issue like this with my old car. Not the same problem, I wasn't switching out my intake manifold or anything but it had the same characteristics as what you're describing.

Check the intake to make sure it's all put together correctly and that everything is bolted down right, if it's OEM. If it's an aftermarket intake, make sure all the tubing is connected, and all the brackets are tightened. When this happened to me, the body shop lost one of the tubing brackets and the intake came apart, was doing the exact same thing.

May be it, may not, give it a try though.

Check over in the RSX/EP3 thread. YOu basically have the same motor as the ep3 (02-05 si). The guy were having trouble swapping over the RBC (civic Si) intake manifold.
