Default PLZ HELP. Motor Quit out of the blue...

Hello. MY car is stuck at a club; I need it asap to get to school/work. I was just sitting there idleing in the parking lot and the car died. A few times(3-4) over the past couple of months the RPM's dipped quite low(almost 0) while at stoplights. I tapped gas and everything went to normal. When I try to start it it cranks and starts ,revs up to about 3k and then instantly drops back to 0 and shuts off.
I checked for a code but got none. tightened plugs at distributor,etc...
Don't know what it could be. ANY help or INFO would be greatly appreciated. The motor is a mini-me(dx block/ex head) in a 92 cx and has been in for 15k+ miles.

PLZ HELP> THANKS

yes. sounds like it won't hold an idle. or check the throttle rotor on the front of your throttle body. make sure it is still sitting on its' screw.

edit: does it stay running if you hit the gas?

no, if i hit the gas it does nothing. The fuel pump is on andhe throttle able is hhokd up, those are aboutthe only things i culd think to check last night.

If it doesnt respond and rev when i hit the gas, does that sound like the iacv, or possibly something else. any other input?

thanks alot guys.

hey guys.
Im gonna ride out to my car tomorrow.. Does anyone know how much a main relay is and if the carry them at autozone/advancedauto or do you needto get it at the dealer. Isn't it just a plug in the dash? im pretty sure i put a new one in when I was first building my car... Any way: clean iacv, clean TB, Adjust screw(maybe),replace main relay if possible, check all lines and hoses. Thats my plan, and i sure as f*ck hope i can get my girl rollin tom.

thanks again everyone. i apreciate the help.

Rob

Did you get a chance to check over anything yet. If not check a few things like spark and fuel to try and narrow down the problem.

I got it home and cleaned out the throttle body and intake manifold and Topped the coolant. Tomorrow im gonna clean the iacv really wel and adjust my idle. It's currentle idling low, jumping around between 250-550 rpm.

I would personally test for spark and also check the ignition coil.

I had an EF that died at a stop sign and wouldn't start. I towed it home behind a truck and began testing. 100.00 later driving again.
