im inquiring about the Ziex..not the azenis..and Kuhmo's are fine to me..good treawear..they dont grip as well as my previous Yokohoma A520s before them..but i certainly felt that they held their own..and were the best bang for the buck...but the real questions here is if anyone has experience with the Falken ZIEX tires..the ZE 512...

ZIEX's are an "all-seaon performance tire". Fact is, there is no such thing. If you've been driving on 712's, you're going to be VERY disappointed in the ZIEX's. They suck.
Good luck getting a set of Azenis's. They've been discontinued and they're working off existing stock in some sizes. Not sure if your size is affected, YET, so get 'em NOW if you can.
Maybe check out the new ECSTA MX if you can't get the Azenis's. A little more than the 712's but presumabley, a better tire.

If you can get Azenis's, there's your answer, hands down. Bang for the buck, best tire on the market.
I've driven on 712's and Ziex's and there is no comparison in my book. Ziex's are trash but I guess, if you're too cheap to have snows on your steelies and you MUST have all season traction, then you MUST get the Ziex's. 712's in the snow ain't pretty.

I had the Ziex on my ride for a couple months and they performed pretty well. Decent grip and good in the rain. Never got a chance to drive in the snow with'em though.
No doubt best tire for the money. Go for it

I agree, I have Falken Ziex and they are trash in anything besides dry surfaces. It's not too bad in the rain once you get going but starting is like driving in my friend's Cobra. The snow... forget it, I put winter tires on my stock steelies for that. Great grip on dry surfaces though.
the aziens HAVE NOT BEEN DISCONTINUED. They just arent expanding the sizes offered. The aziens will be replaced in a couple of years, BUT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN DISCONTINUED.
The real story of the shortage is that these are made in limited batches, the parent company that makes these tires is a truck tire company first. So they keep up with demand on the truck tires, and when they have time, they change the tooling around to make other tires, aziens included.
With the beginning of the autox season, the small supply (compared to other tires) that each retailer gets, moves pretty fast.

I gotta know what you Ziex supporters have compared them to. Your OE tires? Snow tires?

H or Z rated, it doesn't matter, you're not gonna be driving at those speeds for extended periods.
There are so many alternatives that are better than the Ziex. I don't like those tires...they perform very similar to Nitto NT450s.
If you want to get a good tire for a good price, go to TireRack.com and get some Bridgestone Potenza RE730s or S-03s.
I did a comparison test of three tires during Hybrid Track Day #1 at Streets of Willow. The tires finished in this order...Potenza RE730, Toyo FZ4, Falken Ziex 502.
Stay away from Ziex if you plan on competing in Solo2 or hotlapping events. They are a good daily driving tire, but don't expect much when you plan on pushing your limits.
In steady state cornering (ie long sweepers at the track, or a freeway onramp, or skidpad) the Potenza RE730 consistently was 3-5mph faster than the Ziex and 1-3mph faster than the FZ4...
