OT: My Trip to BC > Panorama Backcountry OwnZ me!! 56K = No way.
Hey Everyone,
Just got back from my trip out West to Panorama Mountain, just an hour or so outside of Banff Alberta, but on the BC side. This was the greatest time I've ever had. I've been snowboarding for 15 years, and the Rockies kick my *** every time. We spent 99% of the time out in the backcountry, at a place called Taynton Bowl. We got puked on with over a foot of snow upon arrival so the powder was light and waist deep.
We got adventerous and hiked out of bounds a few days and stumbled upon a few untouched powder bowls. It was Epic to say the least. Cliff drops, trees, rocks, stumps, and snow so deep that when you fell, you tried to push yourself up and your arms sunk in to the snow up to your shoulders. We got a few fresh tracks during the week which was a totally sublime moment for me. It's like surfing. Panorama mountain challenged me in every way. No injuries except for my buddy Ray cracked two ribs on the second last day after bailing on a backside 180 off a roller on our way back for lunch ... go figure.
Anyways, here are some pics:
The mountain:

Me being cold .... -14 that day

Me at the summit of Tayton Bowl

Me at View of 1000 peaks

Avalanche warnings were in the red that week

At the bottom of Tayton Bowl

Looking up at what we just did

Friend Emily at the top of Tayton

Friend Ray at the top of Tayton

The G/F Jess at the top of Tayton

About to go Hiking

Yes, it does say that!

Dropping down into the trees ... way out of bounds now

After dropping exposed rocks just after those trees ... scary!

We were rewarded with fresh tracks ... Looking up at the bowl

Just to make it ITR related
When I first bought her
As I said, best experience of my life. Going back soon. I want to move me, my g/f, my ITR and my board out West. Actually considering it. It's just so beautiful.
Thanks for looking!!

-14 is perfect ... that's when the snow is light and fluffy!
pyitrboy: Have fun at tremblant ... very nice place! See if you can make it up to LeMassif for a day if you want some pow.

It's been snowing here for the last few days. It's so hard going into work when it's pounding outside. I'd rather be skiing.
I've always wanted to get up to BC to ski. Utah resorts have some extreme terrain, but BC is just plain nuts. Be safe, though. Too many people die every year from avalanches.

BC has awesome ski areas
1. Whistler/Blackcomb
2. Big White
3. Panorama
4. Kicking Horse (Golden)
5. Fernie
6. PowderKing
Haven't been to Panorama in the wintertime yet - but now that I see your pics - I'm definitely gonna go.

Thanks for all the comments!
Bald: Your pics look sweet Andrew, I've always wanted to board in Europe. How was the snow?
Ednyboo: Yeah, that was probably me ... was my old route to work last summer, but I'm pretty far away from that now.
Big Phat R: Definately worth a trip to Panorama. The snow is like Fernie, and around the beginning of the season, they get dumped on and the powder is legendary. Nice small village too. It's never busy there.

it was in the mid 30's on when i went so it started thinning out towards mid afternoon. i'm not very good either, so i kept falling down over everything. the mountains are great though. the winter was VERY mild here, and only got down into the 20's for a couple days. there are a lot of great places to ski or board over here. if you get the chance, i definitely recommend it.
