there is really only one way to lighten it up, remove you entire interior, take out your sunroof(if you have one) power window motors, locks, possibly take out A/C, spare tire.
IMHO i think its pointless to do unless its strickly a track car, but its up to you It makes it a little quicker but i dont know if its a enough to notice, i think alot of it is in your head but i could be wrong.

its not that hard to lighter them up, but having the RS model is a really good start.

Basically take out everything that the car doesn't need to function. PS, ABS, AC, back seat, passenger seat, spare, jack, all that good stuff, door pannels, cf hood, cf trunk, get rid of the sunroof (if you have one), everything behind the dash (heater core/ fans), light weight battery, sound deading stuff under the carpet, air bags, and the list goes on forever.

Damn, thats still a lot of weight for all of the stuff you have removed. There was this one guy on here named skunked who had a really light dc around 2100 lb with an h22 i believe, i would like to know what he had done to make it so light.

lexan windows are a huge help. fiberglass body panels are ur budget minded best option. Light and cheap, but they can crack easy, so dont expect it to be a pretty car. Removing the undercoating from underneith also helps, but its way too impractical. As far as wheels goes, your best bet is to get drag wheels, or racing wheels, and have them filled with nitrogen. Its lighter, and the molecules(sp?) are bigger, so they lose virtuially no air.

Weight loss is simple, remove everything, or make it lighter, its up to you how far you want to go.

these cars are pretty light anyway, if your wanting to strip it out that will help but think about what your taking out before you do so, plus you can't forget about the hp part of the horsepower to weight ratio.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

There are reasons why the Type R is heavier, and many of them don't have to do with the shell. The Type R has certain design features that reduce weight (no sunroof, no cruise control, no vanity lights, no sound insulation) but it also has certain other design features that increase weight (rear hatch area reinforcement bar, bigger brake calipers/rotors). The RS is lighter because some standard equipment on the other models (anti-lock brakes and I think air conditioning*) was optional on that model. As you can see, these differences in equipment have no effect on the weight of the body shell, which for the most part is identical from one model to another. I don't know all the weight differences, but just because one model is heavier than another, doesn't mean that its shell is heavier.

*I know the '97-98 Type R didn't come with A/C, but the 2639-pound weight spec is for the '00-01 model, on which A/C was standard.

Make sure you're comparing apples to apples. The weight figures being quoted above are curb weight, which includes full fluids and all standard equipment. For example, if you take your car and weigh it with 1/4 tank of gas, the difference in just the weight of the fuel in the gas tank is 60 pounds.

Think about what is in the car, do a little looking and snooping. You'll find stuff here and there that you can remove without sacrificing the normal daily driver fun and comfort.

I don't think you want a racecar. Most people don't. I'm working on prepping my CRX racecar which weighed 1600 pounds last track day last year. I'm fabricating an aluminum hood. Stock hood is about 30 pounds. Removal of bracing but leaving the outside braces is about 25 pounds, a carbon fibre hood (street) is about 35 pounds (they are not weight reduction, they are show.....if they really are for race you'll be unhappy with the way they flap around). My aluminum one with all aluminum rivets, aluminum louvers for radiator air exit and aluminum cross and lateral bracing should weigh in at about 5 pounds.

When I ran a street car on the track, I was able to remove about 150 pounds without sacrificing anything on the street. You won't want to take more than that out of the car, in my opinion.

Oh....my goal for this year is to reduce the CRX to 1500 pounds (it does have a full 8 point cage)

FWIW, the curb weight on the original CRX when it came out in '84 was around 1600 pounds. Bone stock.

Of course, it also had only 76 hp.

Could you explain what you mean about the part I bolded?

Also, how noticable is a 100-200 pound drop on any of the versions, using stock setup?

horsepower to weight ratio is important in any real race... a 1900 lb car pumping out 600 horses and roughly the same torque will run a 9 second quarter mile... maybe better... a car with the same power... but say... all the luxuries of a nice car... like maybe some ferraris... a viper maybe? or the new vette... they're all fast cars, but they aren't 9 second cars... where did i pull my numbers from? my uncles drag car ... and yeah.... vettes, ferraris, lambos, mustangs... all those power monsters can't do better than 11's in the quarter stock... u know why? cuz they still contain luxuries... most cars pumping out 600hp weigh well over 3000 lbs... that is the power to weight ratio...
i personally won't do much in the ways of weight reduction xcept maybe a carbon fiber hood... and since when is carbon fiber heavier than stock??? maybe just on the crx? cuz i know my metal civic hood weighed a hell of a lot more than the carbon fiber one...
and just some general information that probably isn't always right just due to different horsepower/torque numbers... it's supposedly every 100 lbs u can lose will chop off a tenth of a second in the quarter...

There are DC's in the 1900 to 2100 range, but quite of bit of work is required to get them that light.

How serious are you about getting it light?
