Transmission problem... H22 with the tip tronic tranny
Ok i have never seen anything like this problem before, so please, help me...
My car is a 97 prelude SH with the tip tronic transmission. Recently, when put in drive the car doesnt move forward when you let off the brakes, like it should, it even rolls backwards when on an incline... The same thing for reverse. Now, when i go to take off, the car doesnt move till 2000 or so RPM, and when it DOES start to move, i hear whining and grinding coming from the transmission. It only makes these noises under acceleration. All gears shift perfectly fine, the engine runs beautifully in neutral, park, no noises nothing... Now, today, the car started vibrating LIKE CRAZYYYYY when it makes these whining / grinding noises, and ever since these vibrations, the check engine light comes on and the D4 Transmission light blinks... I brought it to the garage today, but they said they could only get a look at it tomorrow morning. Oh, one more thing... it would seem the problem is less evident when the car is cold... meaning it WILL move forward when in drive and i let off the brake, until it warms up. (i live in canada, we have snow here.)
I have checked the following so far:
-Axles (both are new...)
-Wheels are tight, balanced
-Engine is NOT the problem i can guarantee it.
Any ideas... ??

SH's only came with a manual transmission. I doubt yours is an SH. How many miles on your tranny? How often do you change your ATF?
Your tranny is about to die. Start looking for a used tranny in good working condition or do a conversion to a manual tranny.
Search a bit.

It definately sounds like the tranny is on the way out. You can pull the codes for the D4 light blinking, it tells you how in the Helms Manual.
I would say you can rebuild it, get a used one and swap it in or do the manual swap.
I am currently doing the tranny swap, and will have a SS tranny for sale for cheap in about a week....
