Default 95% complete lowering my '90 EF Si and... so then i snapped a bolt.

God damn.
I bought some adjustable springs, supposedly fitting properly in a civic EF, so says the box.

For future reference to those planning on slamming their car, do not buy an "adjustable" kit. These rely on the space in between (when your strut is maxed out) and the top of the spring. Therefore, at minimum compression, there is x-amount of space loose on your strut. x = the amount you are lowering your car. Although i've set my car up like this, it can be unsafe. Your springs are meant to absorb impact, and if you hit a pot-hole and there is no weight on your strut, your strut will completely uncompress, and your strut assembly will not be fastened. Instead of an adjustable kit, i advise deciding on how much you wish to lower your car, and then buy a softer spring rate of the same length to that of your stock springs.

Anyways, so i was working on the driver side rear strut, and lo-and-behold, i snapped the bolt connecting the lower control arm to the bottom of the strut. After hours of stressing, i managed to grind the the fusion welded bolt on the strut right off, this removed the bolt from the strut from the control arm, but i still had half a bolt inside the control arm. We removed the control arm and tried punching it out, and later took it to an auto shop and they used a 10 ton press on it, no luck. it's seized right the f*** in there.

I gotta hit up a parts field for the arm,
what a f***ing nightmare. any questions about dropping your civic, post em up here.

Also, has anyone else installed adjustable coil overs just like mine? Have you had any problems with them?

Thanks.

These are almost identical to the springs i bought.

EDIT: What i believe to be an important clarification to those who made poor assumptions:

I hadn't bought these springs off ebay. The *image* of them, however, IS from eBay. This was because i happened to be in a rush at the time i posted this thread, and therefore quickly dropped in the gif.

Notice I said "almost identical to the springs i bought" in my original post. The springs I bought are skunk2. So please stop hating on eachother. Also, i don't care if you managed to install a turbo kit with your teeth, or how cool your mom thinks you are, so please leave it out of this thread.
Thank you.

I have a set just like the ones in the pic. I haven't installed them yet because I'm happy with the lowering springs that are on it now and also any lower and I wouldn't be able to get out of my road.

I have a question about them.... What are the rubber rings for.

That's what happens when you buy cheap kits like that.

Look at those.......I would never put those on my car. I'd rather ride like a 4X4.

You shouldnt be asking that when you are 95% done , they go in between the collars and the shock to keep it located so it doesnt move around

you use th rubber rings around the shock or strut to keep that metal coilover piece in place and from making noise

nothing wrong with a coilover kit like that. they all work the same way. they have shorter springs that let you lower them on the level of the tube hence lowering your car. you make it seem like this is some sort of new alien technology. how do you think skunk2 coilovers work? anyways, from readin your story it sounds like you shouldnt be workin on cars. I dont understand what you mean by the " arm " that holds the strut. do you mean the fork? or are you saying you completely took off the lower control arm to do your coilovers. if so, sounds like you like doing things the extremely hard way. take it to a shop next time

I'd be leary of any springs that advertise with a picture of an RC car suspension (right upper hand corner).

Sounds like he snapped the 14mm bolt that holds the strut onto the rear LCA. You will never get it out!!! My brother snapped one on my CRX so I was stuck with that setup for a while. When it came time to change struts I had to hit the jyard and buy a new LCA.

You've obviously read my post incorrectly.
You disconnect the lower control arm in order to pull it downward and remove the rear struts. The REASON i completely removed the arm was because i snapped a bolt off in it. We removed it to take to a shop to which a 10ton press couldn't even handle.
Working on my car is just as fun as driving it. If you're too incompetent to do your own mods, then i can tell you've wasted a lot of money paying others to do them for you.

i never knew the meaning of being a "tuner" was to buy the most expencive parts... i guess just about everyone on this site is a " ricer" i mean.. only if they dont have the most expencive parts made. retard.

EdIT : you used the word incompitent two times in one post. thats really not cool.

Expensive!!! 90% of the parts we buy are not expensive! 600 bucks for an exhaust is not expensive......600 for coilovers w/ shocks is not expensive......160 for a quality short shifter is not expensive. 3k into your engine and tranny is not that expensive people!

The lesson here today kids is that QUALITY parts arent as expensive as you think they are. Do it right the first time you silly little ***** and you'll save money in the long run.
