99 Honda Accord-Slow Accelleration-Transmission, Clutch or What?
I have a 99 Honda Accord 5 speed manual transmission, possibly 4 cylinder. Recently, when I try to accellerate in first or other gears the car will rev up but accellerate very slowly and then kind of catch up, like it is engaging something. This happens in all gears. Some days are better than others. In higher gears such as 4th or 5th, when I depress the gas peddle to go faster, the engine will rev somewhat and eventually the car will pick up speed, but slowly.
I would like to have an idea of what is the problem, before I take it to the shop. Any ideas.

how many miles are on it and do you slip the clutch alot? It sounds like the clutch is shot, and the pressure plate isn't grabbing
sounds like the clutch is slipping to me, i remember when i had my WRX, the clutch was going when i got it and i drove it to the point of it slipping so bad i could barly drive it. but it was doing prettythe same thing.
Thank you both for such a quick response. The Honda has 70,000 miles on it. I am not sure what is meant by slipping the clutch. I believe that I drive along in a normal manner-changing gears from lowest to highest. I never use the clutch to slow the car down, but I do do a lot of city driving with a tremendous amount of stop and go through the orange construction barrels.
I am happy to hear that it might be the clutch instead of the transmission. How much do you think that it would cost me to have it replaced?

i doubt it'd be the tranny. 5 spds usually don't go bad unless they aren't taken care of at all or at beaten on constantly. I would say you probably just burnt the clutch, and it depends if you do the job and what parts you get ect. I think it'd be like 200-500$
I am going to take it to a local automotive repair shop that specializes Honda's and Toyota's. You have relieved a lot of my stress. I have heard horror stories about the cost of transmission repairs and did not want to spend that kind of money or buy a new car.
Again Thank you.
Again Thank you.
