if i had the money, i would get the MUGEN. As a second choice, Comptech.
I had an AEM CAI, it sounded wicked loud with vtec(stock otherwise).. I seriously skered people on the highway. I didn't really like the sound at vtec. just sounded bad. not the smooth sound you get from a short ram. So i made it a short ram, mainly kuz it rains bad in VA and if i sucked up water i would never forgive myself...

If you would like to end your intake troubles, look no further than the Mugen intake.

Provides the best overall gains, excellent throttle response, great mid range and top end. Sounds amazing! not too loud, and not too quiet.

It is an expensive piece, but is very well made, and has lots of Research and development behind it, and is built specifically for the Type R enigine.

It will also have very good resale value, if infact you decide to sell it down the road.

You can get them from http://www.kingmotorsports.com, or if you are in Canada, either http://www.aj-racing.com, or http://www.kensairacing.com

Hope this helps

short ram with V'stack. > mugen

just because mugen's 100 times more expensive..

but if you have the money i'd go get mugen.. if you're broke.. like i am. i'd get a short ram intake and slap on the v stack

i had. stock intake, aem cai, j's racing, aem cai cut(short ram) + v'stack.

here's my review on 4 intake set up i had
stock's nice and quiet
aem cai = bad throttle response, good high rpm "feel" sounds loud at vtec
j's racing = louder before the vtec, gets more quiet after vtec. everything feels real smooth, good throttle response.
short ram + v'stack. good throttle response, loud before vtec, and after ( loudest) lol.

short ram + v'stack feels great. i like this setup the best out of these 4 intake set up i had

not bashing on mugen product or owners..
i dont know if extra $500 is worth it to gain 2-5 whp more than v'stack setup. (i know it all depends on the motor setup and everything. but it's not significant amount of difference)

it's just JDM bling under the hood...yah know..
if you have mugen intake. you're Ballllllling

Not calling you out here, but how can you compare without ever having a Mugen intake?

If you don't like the price of the Mugen you could opt for the Comptech Icebox. It's a nice piece bearing the same concept as the Mugen. The Mugen just has a bigger mouth and tube. I picked mine up for $200 used. You don't even really need the blingin' intake tube, just the box and a K&N e2427 stock drop-in filter.

However, if I were doing it all over again I would've stepped up and bought the Mugen in the first place.

Because for me, I can say... Stock, Injen, J's Racing and Mugen. However... I would not commment on the Comptech, ARC and others I have not used.

But like Broken Ankle guy said.... Icebox from what I hear is a pretty nice piece, however I have no personal experience.

I'd say get the Comptech Icebox. Best for the money in my opinion.

Why are you stressing over an intake. Just get a used AEM intake for like $100 and call it a day. And I doubt the AEM is a 1hp gain over stock, it has to be more. Close to $800 for a mugen intake is a BIG rip off. Is $800 worth 10-15whp?, No, not at all

well i guess i can't really compare mugen to anything since i never had it.
but from what i see from mugen users and dyno graphs. mugen kicks ***. only thing makes the mugen piece bad is the price tag.
i was just comparing intakes i had so far as you can see.
all i'm trying to say is.. mugen intake is not cost efficient.
well i was comparing its price and if it was worth that extra 500-600 bux for extra few hp.

for 800 bux you can get a nice header ..

yeah.. if you're balling and can afford 800 bux for a intake.. get one.. i'm sure you will love it.. but for poor man like me.. the v'stack and shortram does it for me

I believe Ausmith did this last year, Aem vs. V-stack vs. Mugen vs. stock.

What is an AEM or Icebox new? I know it is comparing apples to oranges, but a used Mugen intake is not $500-600 more than those. Just my .02, but I would like to go on the record as a skeptic who tried the Mugen and have never looked back.

I've see a few gen1 mugen intakes sell used (with very minor fixable issues) in the $300 - $350 price range. I'm not sure how it compares to the revised version though.

at the end of the its a filter on a stick. The mugen makes the most power but its negligible(sp?). If your obsessed with getting every last drop of power get a mugen. Not worth to ME though. jmo
