Default What's the weight difference between 88 doors and 89-91 doors

The 88 doors are supposed to be quite a bit lighter than the doors of the later model CRX's. Part of it is due to the seat belts and part is due to the side impact beams. Anyone actually know the true weight savings of 88 doors?

Thanks

i don't know the pound for pound savings but if you are going to run some harnesses for seatbelts it would be a good idea to ditch the 89+ doors.

Did they start doing the side impact beams in '89 or '90? The '89's are much lighter than the '90 - '91's

Thanks,

Charles

They started them in 89. The door mounted seat belts don't weigh much. When I pulled them out they were only about 5lbs each side at the most.

89-91 have dor mounted seat belts, 88's have pillar. 88 doors weight much less as well but will not fit 89-91's. and 89-91 doors will not fit 88's

Why wont the 88 doors fit on an 89-91? The bodies should be identical. In Canada, the 88-91 all have the 88 style doors with no seatbelts. In the US, the 89 HF ran the 88 doors while the 89 DX and SI ran the newer style with belts in the doors. I thought for sure the doors would be interchangeable.

I think the mounting bolts are different between the years. A 89 HF door might fit a 89 si, but I really don't know. I'm sure that the 88 doors will not fit on a 89+ SI. Also the 89s are only 50lbs or so lighter than the 90-91. I believe that difference had to do with the rear discs.

So does the 88 si door panels, bolt right up without any mods or gaps, stuff like that? Iam thinking of getting takata harness.

The difference in weight between rear disks and drums is minimal.

when i put 90 teg gs rear discs in my 88 hf to prepare it for road racing...the drums weighed much less...i'm guessing at least 10-20 lbs lighter with the drum setup

I was going to buy some 88 HF doors but the owner weighed them and they were 65-70 pounds. That is the same weight as my 91 DX doors. If someone else has HF doors, please weigh them.
