Input shaft bearing bad?
I checked the FAQ and saw the thread on this. It seems like the noises I'm hearing are a little different than some others have explained so I wanted to check and make sure.
At idle with the clutch pedal out I hear a loud knocking noise from the tranny. When I press the clutch pedal in the noise goes away. When I engage the clutch in 1st gear there is no noise at first, then at about 5-10mph the knocking comes back getting faster as the engines rpm raises. From there on out the noise is there in every gear until I come to a stop with the clutch pedal pressed in.

Yep sounds like it, I would pull the tranny before anymore damages are done.. It will be pretty obvious which bearings are toast once you split the casing, Dont worry its really not that bad just have a clean, open area to work... Remove the main shaft retaining clip, Split the casing, Pull the reverse idler gear arm off, Then you can remove the entire gear sets from the case and inspect all your bearings.. Iv done it a few times so if ya need anymore pointers let me know
Alrighty. The motor and tranny are already out. I'll check it out tomorrow and see. Is there a secret to seperating the tranny from the block? Do I have to take the starter bolts out or something? We didn't mess with it too much and before I go back out there tomorrow I thought I should check with someone who would know. Thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it.
Knocking noise? That is not symptom of an input shaft bearing. I've had one go bad - it just whined louder and louder up until it's demise. Not a single knocking sound.
Can you describe the knocking sound? Like a loose piece or like a bad clutch bearing?

It's definately a knock, almost sounds like a rod knocking. With the clutch pedal pressed in the noise goes away. Whether I'm idling or going down the road the noise is there as long as the clutch pedal isn't pressed. When I start off in first gear the noise gets louder and faster as the car does. Already bought a clutch release/ throw out bearing and a pilot bearing.

Ok, so since the motor and tranny are out already I want to make one last attempt before I wait on this "book" to get here. Nobody can tell me exactly what needs to be replaced? I'm going to try and pull the tranny off tomorrow and check everything out.
