Default Problems with short shifters?

Hi,
I have been told a few times that utilizing short shifters on b series tranny's can mess the synchros up because it doesnt allow the car to fully engage into gear. This seemed a bit ridiculous to me but I wanted to see if anyone had heard this as well.

Also I am going low budget with my setup and there are a ton of ebay short shifters out there. I understand you get whatyou pay for but I am looking at one with the ball bearings in it. I figure for 10 bucks how bad could they be. Any input would be great.

Just stick with a stock shifter. The eGay ones break easily at the point where the threads meet the body of the shifter. Try and find a steel one or stick with a stock one.

Shifters don't kill transmissions, people do.

the ebay shifters snap, or the bearing fall apart, or both. do yourself a favor and buy a b&m for like $40. No headaches or problems.

i dont like their other products but i purchased a pacesetter adjustable short throw and it was awesome... not only could i choose how short it was, but it was made out of high quality stainless steel with a delrin pivot and was only about $50... i went through two ebay shifters(both snapped just below the threads) before i came to my senses and bought a decent shifter... just my .02

Ive rocked b&m for about 2 years now, never had any problems, and my trans still grinds into 3rd gear like it always had since I bought the car.

My buddy had a egay one in his rex, snapped it off ripping it into second.

But like I said, I have never experienced any problems with b&m!!

when people SLAM gears with a short shifter, the synchros dont have time to do their job , causing grinding. you could have the shortest shifter in the world, and if you didnt slam gears, it wouldnt grind

I'm curious about this as well... been looking at getting something that sits right near my hand when it's at rest.

Thanks for the comments...I love it.......The throws on my shifter "feel" long because the shifter itself is so long. But if you grip the shifter down near where it gets fat you'll feel tht it's really short shifting. The shifts are very firm because of the length.

I Changed all of my shifter bushigs with ES bushing which helped. I'm sure my shifts will be even better when I replace my bitch pin, which is loose. I currently have zero grinds through all gears.

So a loose/old bitch pin can effect everything? Dammit. Like I said before, my bitch pin slides in and out like nothing...crap

agreed.. its not the short shifter that kills the tranny.. its the people that think their race car drivers and need to slam it into gear with their full body weight that kills the synchros
