Level of Difficulty on Suspension Installation for EM1
my friend is probably going to end up buying the tein basic suspension set up for his 99 civic si. we were planning on doing it ourselves. i have an electric impact gun but im not sure if its strong enough. its some cheap GM tool. on a scale from 1-10, 1 being lowest and 10 being highest, how hard can it be?
and how many of you guys did this on your own? whats your experience? did any of you just use hands and no power tool?
also, i searched around but could not find a DIY. anyone stumble onto one?

Ive lowered several civics ranging from 92-99 and they are all pretty simple considering. There are not many differences. I usually do it with hand tools but impact wrenches help out.
For me it wasn't that hard. On 1 - 10 I'd say about 3 or 4.
There was a magazine I saw a couple weeks ago that explained exactly how to switch out the suspension for after market lowering springs and struts. Ill see if I can find the article online or something.

There are at least 3 full picture tutorials on civic's on how to do this... It's really not too hard.. hand tools take longer.. before you do the install, use PB blaster or some type of bolt loosener a day before or the nite before you are going to work on it. That'll help a lot with loosening the bolts that you will remove. As long as you don't break a bolt like I did, it will go fast. Probably an all day from morning to evening if you can keep going.. Otherwise leave up the week end to do it.
I can really find that link that I used, but I saved the tutorial webpage on my computer. I have it zipped for you and can send it to you. Just give me ur email.. Don't worry, no viruses or anything are embedded in the attachment. I don't do that sort of thing and hate people that do. The file is 1.89MB.
Nevermind, I was able to upload it. here's the link: http://www.snapdrive.net/files...e.zip

It was my first major modification that I attempted myself. It was a lot easier than I had expected. Always expect the unexpected though, snapped bolts, rusted nuts, etc.

I give it a 4-5. You really don't need any tools other than a jack, jackstand, ratchet, sockets, and wrenches.
I just did this to my EM1. (no mechanical experience previous) and once you look it up-and-down, it's fairly easy. the worst part is getting the bolts to come out of the holes.

you do not need to replace the nuts sorry for the confusion!

i just installed my coilover last week. i used ratchet, wrenches, jack/stand, and air tools to get the wheels and bolts off. other then that its not hard. it took me about 2hrs with very little experience (ive switched out the springs before). i would say its about a 3-4.

its very easy. again make sure that the lca bolts come out easy (use a lot of wd40 before attempting and slowly unscrew them as they break easily).
Easy. Very easy. I have done it twice on my car and once on a buddies. Actually two in the same day. Took about 5 hours lol, asside from the damn lca bolt bein froze.
sounds great guys. the only reason im asking about this, is because i was with a friend of a friend a year ago. they were trying to remove this one long bolt but had no way of getting it off on a scion tc limited. i think the rotors were in the way, but we used a gorilla wrench and some other tools. it was on the front drivers side we had trouble with. after 30 minutes of trying to get it out, we quit and brought it to a shop, which charged us 200 for labor
plus, he only had to change the springs too. it wasnt even the whole coilover kit or anything. hella expensive...
