The pictures are poor quality but it looks like normal casting flaws. If there is epoxy then it may have been porous and leak air.

maybe it was cheaper because it was a quality control reject. but still functional in every way.

man you're trippin, to me it just looks like normal casting flaws, I used to be a moldmaking machinist and I have built molds to make products like that - as the mold wears you start to get lines and stuff likes that but its no big deal, it shouldn't affect performance. as far as you saying the manifold is "all effed up" thats a huge overstatement...
