Default OBD 1 harness in my OBD2a car problems

alright this is bugging the **** out of me... I've got a 97 Del Sol (OBD2a) w/ a B series engine using an OBD1 harness... Now I have read about doing the 3 to 2 wire IAC conversion thing but that still doesn't work... I had to jump a wire across my engine bay from one end of the harness to the other and for some reason my ECU fuse keeps popping due to the VTEC pressure switch plug (green one) So I run a wire directly from the ECU to the plug itself and now it's not blowing the fuse but I still don't think everything is back to normal..... What do you guys usually do when converting a car to OBD1... Oh and I also have an OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness w/ a P30 w/ hondata....

Here's a random pic cause' people are more likely to look at the thread if there's a pic...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Shane

Ok... That's what I was thinking but everyone I asked couldn't give me a direct answer... I'm gonna do that... Do you think I could use a harness from a D16Y8 or does it have to be a B series harness?

I believe the del sols have a 2-piece harness verses the obd 2 civics which have a one piece, you prbably want a obd 2 teg harness or a del sol obd2 harness, vtec harnesses in either case will mean less wiring

Alright cool... That's what I'm thinking... Actually the P30 is already tuned for the setup as I pulled it out of another car.. That setup was in a 94 del sol and i'm throwing it in a 97 del sol... I thought that I would have to get an OBD 2 harness....

Oh hey what about the Dizzy... Should I just re-pin it or get an OBD2 dizzy?

I wouldnt re-pin it. I did the samething and the dizzy ended blowing up. I dont know if it was the wire diagram here. My wire-tech buddy that did my whole harness or just a bad dizzy. Just buy a new dizzy. Get OBD2 dizzy for OBD2 harness so the plugs match. The OBD2 harness uses one plug for the dizzy while the OBD1 harness uses two plugs for the Dizzy. Doesnt matter what Dizzy u use on the engine aslong it matches the harness.

Ok... It seems everyone so far says go w/ an OBD 2 harness but the shop I go to says keep the OBD 1 Harness.. What are the pros and cons of using one or the other...?

obd 2 harmess will plug directly into obd2 dizzy and injectors

obd 1 will plug directly into obd 1 dizzy and injectors

guess it depends on which componets you are using

not sure but i believe this is the only difference

oh alt plug may be different as well, maybe some of the wiring guru's will chime with some other info for obd1 vs. obd2

Ok this is my problems though... The engine was pulled out of an OBD1 del sol so it's got the OBD1 Dizzy and RC injectors and i'm not sure what alt. plug it's got cause' I didn't look.

But the car is OBD2a so it's got 4 plugs on the pass. side of the engine bay and the OBD1 harness only has 3 plugs on the pass. side.

I believe that the 4th plug has the IACV wire in it but the OBD1 harness doesn't connect to it.

Then the VTEC oil pressure plug (green) causes the ECU fuse to pop and I know it's that plug because when I pull it off the sensor the fuse doesn't pop... So i'm just trying to figure out what harness people use when they have an OBD2a chasiss and want to convert it to OBD1...

just use a OBD1 wireharness on the engine and buy a OBD1 too OBD2 wireharness adaptor for $190. Then plug and play.

I've got that harness already... I'm running an OBD1 engine harness on a B series engine in an OBD2a car w/ an OBD1 P30/hondata and an OBD2a to OBD1 conversion harness.....

you should contact them and see if they will tell you which harness to use and what if any changes that you need to make, since your using their adapter and popping fuses, nobodys perfect.
