Default Skunk2 pro2 or buddy club spec IV cams??

What up,

Im working on building a mild setup for my b18c1, the build will go as follows: OEM p30 pistons, skunk2 springs/retainers, supertech flat valves, spark racing header, AEBS intake maniold with port mactched TB, full 2.5" exhaust, n some fuel stuff along with other bolt ons..My compression will be around 11.7-11.8, and im stuck between the s2s2 pros and the BC spec IV cams?! this will mostly be a daily driver n tracked on the weekends. I'v heard the BC's make more low-mid than the S2's(which i want) but ppl said that the BC spec 4's are known for breaking timing belts is this true?? what cam would u suggest for getting more MPG n streetablity?

thanks

The skunk pro series are considered to be one of the top low to mid range producing cams right now. Yeah thats a general statement- but research them a little, you'll see what I'm saying.
Here's S2 Pro1 vs bc4's
https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1135465

Pro1's spank bc4's in low to midrange, bc4's win on top. I think it's safe to say Pro2's will do the same for you down low and midrange, but also spank bc4's up top, if its not to big of a cam for your motor( i dont think it would be, but hopefully someone with more experience might chime in.)
your really comparing 2 different "classes" of cams.
Bc4's are more compareable to Pro1's (obviously), and I'd say pro2's are more compareable to Bc5's (again maybe someone else can shed some more light on this)

Mpg and low to midrange power are kind of a trade off it seems to me- your not going to find a cam that spanks everyone else in low to mid power AND spanks everyone else in MPG. With that in mind, I've read that m22x and m24x's were designed to give a good tradeoff between mpg and low/midrange power. You might want to contact a Rocket motorsports rep for more info-(aquafina comes to mind but there are others)

Above all else SEARCH - this info is all available here on H-T; you'll come away much more informed if you read some of the posts on these subjects. gl

The Pro2's have more mid-range and more top. You are thinking of the old stage2's. They had less mid-range and the same top end, as the BC4 copied the stage 2 VTEC lobe.

if youre looking for gas mileage and performance i would say the skunk2 stage 3 (not pro3's)would be a good choice. they have a small primaries and a great vtec lobe. that would be my choice.

S2 quality > Buddy Club quality.

There is much more that come into this decision than advretised specs. I think the Pro2's might be a little overkill for your motor, the Pro1's might fit it better. If I were you, and I'm not just saying this because I am a dealer, but I would narrow my decision down to the Pro1 or the RM M22x. The M22x is an incredible cam profile for a daily driven motor that is extremely easy to tune, and when vtec occurs it really gets down. I'm not talking bad about the Pro2's in ANY way, Hella's recent dyno was pretty damn incredible but a really healthy motor seem's to fit the Pro2's better. I'm drunk.

i cant say enough good things about Pro2's. they were in the best running honda i ever built/drove and it was pretty much the same motor as yours. seamless vtec transition, tons of power before vtec. werent lopey, idled fine. little loud but thats it.
