Default Crome or Hondata S200??? Need opinions on either one.

I just got a quote from my local tuning shop of $750.00 for Crome install and full tune of my turbo set up and $1000.00 for Hondata S200 and full tune.Is there a "HUGE" difference between the two??? Cause if I can save $250 bones I'd like too!!!! Thanks guys!!!

I know this should be in the forced induction section but I know I'll get more replies from you guys.My car is an 88 CRX Si with mini-me setup of A6 bottom end and Z6 head with an IHI RHB5 turbo with HF manifold. Thanks

For free software they're sure charging a hell of a lot for Crome tuning. How much dyno time does this include?

If they don't have Romeditor V4 there's not a huge difference, though I'd call Hondata more reliable and more regular.

Personally I'd recommend Neptune RTP. You can get it from xenocron for $450.

What ECU are you using? I'm assuming you've converted to OBD1.

If you take a look at PGMFI.org and a recent thread in the All-Motor forum, you'll see that Crome doesn't control timing the way it's supposed to, particularly at high RPM.

It's not just you.

I need to know how many hours on the dyno this includes, but it seems like a lot.

well he said full tune and program so im assuming that means software, socketing and chipping the ecu, dyno pulls, street pulls, full throttle and partial throttle tuning..if thats what $1000 or $750 covers than it seems worth it right? that would be a good deal?

also are you talking about crome free or crome pro.?

chrome free could do the same thing as chrome pro in a compentent tuners hands. i think what you are buying is peace of mind.. rather than tuning it yourself, you have someone do it for you, so it is on their head if your car blows up. if you dont know much about tuning, there is no better way than to dive in with the proper tools.. but if you are just interested in a fast car and dont care about the details, then go ahead and pay to get it tuned, if you can trust the tuner will do a good job. they will probably still make you sign something saying they are not liable if your car blows up.. my problem is i dont have money to get my car tuned, so i had to learn to do it myself. air/fuel tuning is easy enough, but tuning timing is still an art if you ask me.

Yeah I'm new to the whole tuning thing.I actually had an HT member IM and tell me he could chip my ecu with Crome if that was what I decided to run...Thanks Downest!! So I may go that route, who know's.Thing is I don't know if he can just chip it and then I'm good or if that will just get it running ok and I'll have to drop it off to get dialed in.......NO CLUE!! So I'm going to get the motor and tranny up and running na,then bolt up all the turbo stuff, piping etc. Then hopefully the car runs decent enough with the Crome that Downest will hopefully help me out with that I can drop it off and have it professionally gone through!! This will all be a huge learning process for me.

Regular crome doens't have datalogging. Crome pro does. If the tuner isn't using crome pro, he's wasting a lot of your valuable dyno time. On top of that, he shouldn't be charging for the crome software. It's free.

Yeah I'm going back and forth with what I want to do.Been reading up on Hondata S200 and that has a wide range of tuning options as far as boost goes.So still thinking, but it's nice to get varying opinions which is why I threw this up on the board.I appreciate all your comments alphajesse,I'll keep you posted on my progress.I'm going to be putting a build up post soon anyway and I'll let you know when it goes up.Thanks

Get Neptune RTP. It will run the car better than s200, and it is cheaper than S300.

It is the best one out there right now. You don't have to burn chips, you don't pay extra for the rom editor or anything.

hope this is not too late! if your not planning of tuning it on your own, then there's no need to buy the software. just go to a crome tuner. in my case i use john cui as my tuner. can't be any better than the man who created crome, isn't it.
