Healights shorting out! HELP!

My 89 Sedan Has a headlight shortage of some sort. With the lights on, I hit the brakes and they dim... also some times when I put the blinker on they go out completly then i have to turn the healights of then on again, for them to work. It does this frequently. What could this be?
