Default 6-Point Racing Harness Installation - Correct Way???

I was wondering what is the correct way to install the 6th point on a racing harness. Currently I have them hooked to the same eyebolts as the lap belts. I sit on them and have them come up between my legs and snap into the cam lock. The belts are expanded all the way, and it is a VERY TIGHT fit, even though i'm a skinny person.. The other way I have seen them installed is mounted on the floor under the seat, and coming up through the bottom hole on the bucket seat. If it is installed like that, what is the difference between having a 5th point and a 6th point? The shop that I am going to get tech inspected at told me that it is suppossed to be mounted on the floor. I'm confused... How should I have it??

How I have it now..

How I've seen others do it..

Yes, the sub belt is supposed to be mounted to the floor. You can either have an anchor point welded in place or i believe Scroth has a mounting solution that uses a mount spanning the front seat bolts.

yeah i was thinking about just bolting some eyebolts to the floor, with big backing plates on the bottom..

so floor mounting is the correct way? what would the difference be between a 5pt and 6pt then? equally distributed load??

eqaully distributed around your family jewels.. ie, you will be less likely to crush them in an accident. I'm sure the load distribution is part of it though..

gforce makes eyebolts and backing plates for putting them through the floor..

So both sub belts go through the single sub belt hole on a fixed back composite race seat? Is this how you racers with 6point are doing it?

so its either 6pt or stick to 4pt? i was thinking of 5pt since the hole on my seat will only fit a single belt anyway so i figured why do i need 2 pt. but the family jewel thing scared me lol. does it really matter though? i don't really spread my legs like a **** when I'm driving. 1 belt may be uncomfy going through there as it is.... but 2?

Installation depends on the model of belts you are using. The basic idea for most 6 point belts is to sit on the belts. They end up being like a parachaute harness around your pelvic area and reduces by a great margin the risk for back injuries. By the way, when it is done right, there is no pressure on the boys.

Spend some time with the Schroth installation instructiuons.

Nice, I will look into that link. I was planning on G-Force 5pt belts...I didn't think 6pt would be necessary since the crotch belt (lol) hole is small (same size as the lap and shoulder belt holes) and it is in front of my "boys" so I wouldn't be sitting on the belt.

The info is developing that 5 point harnesses are leading to lower back injuries because thae force from a frontal impact are rotating the pelvis up and forward while to body is being driven downward. The 6-point belts are supposed to stop this rotation.

Go to the belt manufacturer's website. There's more to installing belts than just bolting them in. There's a number of critical angles to ensure that nothing bad happens.

yeah, i reviewed the schroth instructions, and it said to mount them straight down or back 20 degree's... somewhere between those angles.

That's one reason why I like my Ultrashield seat. It allows for the mounting of 6 point belts like most manufacturers (that I've looked into) suggest. IIRC, most belt manufacturers suggested mounting the 2 point anti-sub strap just like a 5 point (back at an angle of 20 degrees directly under the crotch), except the 2 sub belts should be separated by a distance of 4". That's exactly how I mounted my belts, and the Ultrashield seat allows for this separation by having two holes for the anti-sub belts on a 6 point harness.

Schroth appears to suggest this type of mounting for the Profi and Hybrid models:

For the Profi F, they suggest routing the sub straps through the holes for the lap belt:

Doesn't Teamtech have a belt setup that uses a unique anti-sub setup. The Jet Pilot, I believe?

In my experience, if you mount 6 point type sub belt on the floor, the 5 point sub-belt is much more comfortable to wear.
