RHD how hard is it?
I did some research nothin is to clear on what you really have to go threw to make a rhd crx or any car for that matter legit over here. So im wondering if anyone personaly has done it perferable on the east coast.
Well not exactly close to you but my Buddy that runs and owns Hondaworks in Charlotte NC has done it a couple times. welding, welding and more welding.........did I mention welding???? it is just WAY to much labor o pay someone to do. Unless you can do it yourself it's just not worth it IMO, it's still not worht it IMO even it''s free to be honest. It's just such a pain to deal with a RHD car in a LHD country, to many things about it suck (like blind spots and drive throughs for example)
Iv seen right hand drive conversions, but Im curious on importing one from across seas an having registered an all that over here sorry i wasn't to clear on the importing part

most people stop updating threads on HT bc of all the flaming they get.
i personally think its pointless, but to some people cars are more then function.
but anyways, many of the threads you see on here that seem to "die" are just not updated on honda-tech bc its essentially 24/7 hate.
to the OP:
how hard is it? you have to drill out 100+ spot welds and hack off the front of your car.
if your a good welder and extremely patient your looking at months of work just to be sitting on the wrong side to have kids who really know the car point out that its not the real thing....
my .03 cents.

i did it to my crx, it took 3 weeks by trial and error, however, my rhd swap is pretty clean. Just being able to install my b16 with no after market motor mounts all stock is nice. im in the process of re doing all the wiring, then I should have the beast up and running

why the hell do you want to make your crx RHD??? seriously thats just about the dumbest mod i think possible on any car. RHD ONLY BELONGS ON CARS THAT COME WITH IT FROM THE BEGINNNING. Save you money and buy a MOTOR swap instead, not something to make yur car look "JDM tizzight". worst idea ever.

Dont matter anyway, he aint importin nothin.
These are the 2 age old CRX/EF questions:
Q. I wanna import a CRX/Civic
A. Not possible to do and be legal, for the 1000th time
Q.How do I do a RHD conversion?
A. If you dont have enough common sense to know that yourself, you dont need to do it.
We're talking all those spot welds, all that welding, you need a RHD steering rack, you need new brakelines, you need ALOT.
And there are TONS of threads covering this on multiple boards, quit bein lazy and search
Oh, and if you dont believe me bout importing, search my topics, I did an incredibly thorough research on it, if you got any ?'s just ask me, but trust me its impossible to do legally unless you have six figures to spend on it

Check it, and dont argue PLEASE, this is that whole thread I link'd you to in short:
To import a JDM car you need 2 things:
-DOT certification for Safety Equipment
-EPA Certification for emissions
The EPA certification is a no hassle thing, both Canada and the US have the same Emissions standards, and JDM cars meet Canadian (so they obviously meet ours too.
Here's the problem: to be DOT certified you need a letter from Honda stating the japanese model meets US standards for safety. Plain and simple, you wont get that letter from Honda (trust me, I tried, and when I say tried, I MEAN I TRIED!!!!)
So the next step is to have it:
A. Certified by a RI (Registered Importer)
or B. Have it modified by a RI,
So if you choose option A, their gonna have you give them 3 CRXs EXACTLY like the one you wanna import, and wreck them to test them. If they dont meet the standards, you just wasted 3 JDM CRX's and have to move to option B.
Option B requires you to have custom modification done (EXPENSIVE) then their gonna need 3 more CRX's to crash using the new equipment.
So basically either way you look at it, you need AT LEAST 4 JDM CRX's (3 to crash 1 to hopefully keep). All have to be in reasonably good condition or they wont qualify as proper test cars.
If you do the pricing, your lookin at around $9k per CRX landed in the US. Thats almost $50k. Then you have to handle all the legalities which A.The tests cost alot, B.Having your car modded by an RI is expensive (i've talked with several RI's and the typical bill for modding is around $10k)
Plus there's customs fee's, RI fees, etc.
In the end your lookin at around $75-$100K to get it done legal.
Now, these guys you talk about being "legal" - just b/c they have a title doesnt make them legal. I've talked with alot of these guys and most of them have NO idea what they really need to be legal. I can go get a JDM car registered right now no problem, but if you do that, and per say get in an accident: Its automatically your fault as the car isnt legally on the road, your facing whatever charges that brings, plus fraud charges for fraudulently registering the car.
People have argued with me about this endlessly but its the truth. There's a list of LEGALLY imported and registered cars on the BMV's website - CRX's arent on it, HENCE no one has EVER legally registered one.
If you question any of this, the contact info for the EPA, DOT, Honda of NA, Honda of Japan, etc is all listed in that thread. Feel free to double check it, but get ready to be on the phone for the next week.

I dont want to argue. thanks for the info I was just curious on how these people get them in to the country an drive them around but thanks again for the info.
hey boosted chemist,
ill post pictures, i did a little more then just a firewall swap. What i did was also remove the top piece where the passenger side fender bolts up (i crashed my stock CRX and i destroyed that piece) and i welded it on my chassis.
its hard to explain but I will post all my pictures from my RHD conversion here once i get back from work. My b16 looks sweet nice and bolted up stock!
