Default Power dip low RPM??

I noticed today that i experience a pretty bad power dip from around 2.5k-3k RPM in all gears. really only noticble in 1st or 2nd though (since car is weak anyways)

It just feels like it hesitates there really hard, like its starving for air or something.

Only mod i guess is a cone filter stuck into the stock accordian pipe that connects to the airbox. (the filter was dirtier than **** when i baught it and i didnt want to go buy a new one, had a cone filter laying around from my last car that i never used...)

What could this be and does anyone have a fix? I thought it was the fuel filter, and i replaced that last nite, still the same thing.. just it doesnt feel like it dies around 6K like it did for a few days.

also have a question for the fuel pump filter. Is it supposed to be like a sock type? or a strainer? went to 2 diff places, item was out of stock but one pictured a sock, the other a strainer....

28 of the 32 Horses it has.

No1 else has experienced this?

damn i guess i should just keep it above 5.5K RPM at all times then huh?should be near tripple digits as far as HP goes around there.

And has no1 changed the filter on their fuel pump? information is appreciated, thanks.

im going through the same thing...so many variables. Low compression, ignition, fuel.

That fuel strainer is probably one of your best bets, let me know how it goes...i think some checker stores have them for $16

Im kinda having the same problem as you. If I shift into 2nd and try to gas it, the car kinda bogs for a second then goes. It's really pissing me off.

plug wires.

you gave the same description of what my last car was doing, but for some reason it only did it at low rpms while flooring it. id be willing to bet its your wires or plugs or something along the lines of ignition.

Timing most likely...mine does the same. bogs in low rpms (below around 1800-2000) and bogs when i floor it but when i let off i get regular power...but i cant floor it!! im probably gonna get a tune up and have the timing checked out. u should do the same....any tuners near STL, MO area???

its dependant of your fuel pump...there will be only one type, sock/strainer same thing.

I guess ill order one of each and return what its not...

also is there a way to check my timing without taking off the lower timing belt cover? and how do i find proper ignition timing?

yeah take out number one spark plug and put a long skinny ext in it and turn crank untill top dea center if cam gear is saying up and it is up not timming i am thinking sense u said it just happened has to be something electrical timming cant just jumb like that maby throttle position sensor or map sensor but sense it runs has to do with how the car runs prob o2 senor two

doubt it, its timing or a sensor....o2 wouldnt really cause that, ive had 3 o2's and nothing changed.

Here is how to find out if your having the issue....when you gas it, does the pedal give off any resistance? like is it stiffer? i noticed when im NOT having the problem, my pedal is way stiffer, therefore the air pump that the engine is, is working properly....try getting a new fuel pump, and then work on getting all the readings from your sensors

check timing, then move to compression/leakdown. After that check for intake/exhaust leaks. Check conditions of plugs, if all is well convert to OBD1, and get rid of the knock sensor. When my car has the CEL on, the throttle response is very crisp, there for some sensor is messed up.

no CEL so most of that is already not a problem.

I'm thinking cat is about stuft. lol

just today i noticed that when i shift early and go WOT it takes FOREVER for teh car to respond. like shifting at 3.5K and then flooring, i watch the tach sit still for a good 2 seconds, then slowly start moving and then i can feel the car pull...

i guess when i go back to school i'll gut the cat and run some spark plug spacers on the 2nd o2 to avoid a CEL. THEN go on to expensive things like fuel pump.

Right now my gas mileage is doing worse than usual, car feels about the same, maybe somewhat slower since its warming up down here. But i think that is because on my last fillup i dumped 3 bottles of STP stuff. the injector cleaner, the fuel treatment one, and the octane booster.

Do NOT gut the cat, it will be worse, trust me, i did that. It is NOT the Cat. I am having the exact same issue as you.

When i shift at 4k rpms, then go WOT, my car doesnt move, unless i let off the gas, or give it time.

When i ran seafoam in the gas tank, things helped. You will still get a cel with the 2 washers, you will need 2 resistors, and an o2 simulator, which is not worth the money. Try a new fuel pump/strainer 1st, seriously, get a multimeter, check all sensors/ignition. Then move to timing and fuel, its NOT the cat, since it did it worse when i had a test pipe installed, ALOT worse

I'm bumping this for more insight and answers. I replaced my fuel filter and still no real improvements. Next step is installing a 255 walbro

try removing the EVAP system and blocking off the vac line to the IM, it seems to have fixed my issue. I tested it out with everything connected, and it bogged like crazy, wouldnt move on the highway. Removed it, doesnt do that anymore...hmmm
