A complete rebuild is labor intensive + parts expensive.
Case bearings/seals alone are $200+. Thier site says $200 labor.

What do you need done? I'd be willing to do it on the side, but I'm in 310.

Most likely the synchronizer itself is bad. If the damage is worse, then you're looking at replacing the gear too. The synchronizer is a dealer only part and costs about $150. If you buy it including the gear, it's $200. i would change the shift fork for peace of mind as well ($75?).

2nd gear is on the countershaft, so this adds more to the labor cost.
3-4-5 are on the mainshaft and are less labor to replace.

There's tons more parts you can replace, or you can just fix the gear and go. up to you.

Well to set the record straight...
Most cases it is more than just the synchro itself. Typically it is the Sleeve, Synchro and sometimes the Gear
The 2nd gear synchro CANNOT be purchased from the dealer by itself. They are sold in the 1-2 Sleeve set and MSRP from the Dealer is $370.17 with the MSRP on the gear running $99.77 Keep in mind...these are MSRPs...not hookups or online discount costs. I cannot quote any pricing either.

Whether it is on the Mainshaft or Countershaft...they both need to be pulled out of the transmission so there should be no differenence in what the cost is..Thats BS. Its not that hard to pull the shafts apart if you are skilled at transmission work

We build for Honda Dealerships Nationwide, Geico, Various extended warranty co's, Jasper, Repairshops Nationwide, as well as for American Honda Motor Co. through their extended warranty program. We are probably the best in the US. However we are pricey because of the quality, extent we go in remanufacturing and only completely remanufacture transmissions. If you are looking for just repairs on certain areas I would recommend going to someone like Eugene @ Prostreet as he could save you $$ They are customers of ours as well. In the future we may offer this service but, at this time we are moving to a 40,000 sq foot facility and just can't do it at the moment with the move going on. Good luck!

BS! Wow... pretty harsh. What tools are required to replace that 2nd gear assembly on the counter? What about a 3rd gear on the main? Classy response from a classy operation.

Don't get upset because I called you out....It wasn't that harsh The information you gave was wrong...end of story. There is nothing unclassy about saying that. Then you want to attack our operation... Whats not classy is giving the public misimformation.

Its ok to be wrong sometimes... don't get yourself in a twist over it and start throwing out insults. Not cool Sorry if saying BS offended you..I apologize

Now lets get back on topic

Here is some pics of our Classy operation

As far as tools...they are pretty much standardized

Shop Press 20 Ton

Machining area

Washing Stations

Disassembly Area

One set of building rooms...we have about 12 Builders total

Core Storage Area

Back Shop Photo

Keep in mind this is a 20,000 square foot facility..we are currently moving to a 40,000 square foot facility
We Specialize in Honda/Acura only...we do not do Domestics etc.!!!!

Thank you for the effort to be civil, I appreciate that.

1) You posted MSRP prices, and said 2nd gear is not sold separately.
You just added additional info.

2) You oppose my viewpoint that the counter requires more work to dissassemble and reassemble.

a) you did not respond to my previous question

b) If you can replace a gear on the counter as fast as I can replace a gear on the main, then kudos to you. You really are quite the operation and people should patronize your business!

That's the end of this chest-beating thread for me.

I think since we do it day in and day out we look at each shaft equally...since we remanufacture the whole trans its not much to assemble for the trained hand. As far as tools used...To disassemble a used trans....A light tap on the bench will usually cause the shafts to disassemble themselves once the end nut has been removed. If its a new unit...it goes to the press. For assembly we use the press and viola...then just tighten to spec They are fairly simple when you do 1,000 units per year Now in the begining on your first couple trans rebuilds...thats a different story! We are just fortunate to have been trained by some of the best and from guys that have been specializing in Honda/Acura transmissions for over 15 years. We have some talented workers!!!

Now no more chest beating!
