Show me pics of your painted headlights... 96-98, 99-00 or whatever.
Oh and I'm about to do mine.. I have a set of stock 96-98 headlights. Do you guys think I should leave the amber or clear it out? I'm leaning towards clearing it out for the cleaner look but then I don't want to get pulled over.. I've seen 99-00s WITH the amber and it looks badass but I don't know if I can say the same for 96-98. Give me your opinions!

Ok ok. Mine is the first Red Si.
I took out the headlights. Preheated over to like 200 degrees i think. Put the headlamps in on a big pan with foil on the bottom. Keep in over for maybe 10 minutes (although every couple of minutes check and make sure nothing is getting cooked!!!! Trust me, you don't want to fry your headlamps hehe) Immediately after, use a screwdriver and pry the headlight apart. It's a bitch, but the heat should loosen it up some. There are some tabs that you have to work with.
Next i think there are 2 screws that hold the headlamp assembly to the plastic part with you actually paint. NOTICE THAT MY BLINKER REFLECTOR IS NOT BLACKED OUT! Some people clear it out, but i like it with the orange reflector there. The reflector pops right out. Now you should have the plastic outer piece all seperated. This is what you will paint. You DO NOT want to paint the inside middle where the light needs to reflect. If you do, i hear you will not be able to see
Basically you just paint the frame.
Take a fine grit of sandpaper, and lightly sand the frame to be painted. This will allow the paint to stick much better. I than sprayed a nice smooth skinny layer of primer. After that dried, i got, if i'm not mistaken a color called "Flat Black" or something like that from PepBoys. I sprayed a nice skinny layer on. Waited about 30 minutes or so, and applied another layer to finish up the job. Do not overspray or make the coat of paint too thick. After twas all dried, I reassembled. Push the headlight cover back and reseal the headlamp by putting the assembly back in the over for just a short period. Remember, not hotter than 200 degrees. This will loosen the adhesive so you can reuse it. Then push it back on as far as you can. for an extra layer of protection against leakage, i used CLEAR silicon on top of the factory adhesive. Let dry. Reinstall.
I love the look. It looks HOT! Anyway, any questions email me kevin@civicstyles.com as i will lose track of this thread.

WOW those are some nice pics. Anyone leave the orange reflector on their 96-98 lights?
CivicSiRacer- Hey I noticed you painted everything including the reflector part of the headlight whereas most people left it chrome. Does this in any way affect the headlights at night? It looks very nice but I don't want to compromise the sight at night.

If I'm not mistaken, CivicSiRacer on clubsi.com did mention how he could not see after he painted all the reflecting inner parts. Good thing he has foglamps!
