Default Cam gears not lining up... need help!!!

I was tensioning my timing belt and noticed the cam gears do not line up. I used the coat hanger trick to tension the timing belt because I didn't have a spring. When the crank pulley is at TDC, the cam gears do not line up. Is this normal? Does this interfere with the timing? What should I do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't have to to take the crank pulley off, but it would make it easier. Also, try to post a pic, so we can see how far off it is.

Yes they are. In that position I believe the #1 piston is at BDC (bottom dead center) Rotate the crank until the cam gears have moved 180 degrees from the position in your pic. Then you can make sure everything lines up properly.

The crank turns twice for every one rotation of the cams, spin the crank another rotation and take another picture

I just notice that they were upside down, but in that pic that #1 piston is at TDC even though the cam gear are upside down because i put a long screw driver in the #1 piston to check the pistons and it at TDC.

i rotated the crank a whole 360 degree to make the cam gear face the up position and it's still off just like the first pic. what is my next step.

this is obviously someone with no knowledge of how a 4 stroke motor works. therefor i come to the conclusion he knows nothing about cam gears lining up.

years of experience

like the other guy said, rotate the motor so the cam gears are facing up. triple check to make sure #1 piston is at TDC. then tighten T belt. rotate motor over a couple full revolutions to make sure your cam degree markers are at 12 o'clock and when they are piston #1 is at TDC.
on a side note if your cam gears are less than 1 full tooth off you will be fine. ive had a couple motors line up perfectly before and ive had a couple motors look "slanted" like yours.
on a side note of a side note, ditch that toda T belt. there have been plenty of threads about what POS they are, losing teeth and whatnot.

I would take the belt off and try to line the cam gears and the crank up. It looks like it's off by a tooth. I would get a new belt also. Maybe the belt is stretched??
