Default Water/Air ic setup

Here's something a little different. This is Garrett's new series of water/air intercooler cores. This little core is rated at 1000hp. I built the water box around the ic, you not only get the cooling of water being pumped through the core, but of the core sitting in ice water.

The tank is all .125" aluminum, with a big 6" cap to make it easy to fill with ice. It's a mezierre electric water pump that draws directly from the tank, and pumps into the core. The outlet of the core dumps back into the tank, so there's only 1 line. The whole unit comes out as one by simply unplugging the electrical connector on the pump and taking off the lower ic pipe and upper v band clamp.

And a small pic of the custom suspension..

Hey Mr.Palo do you think that will boil the water that is close to the core? When it gets really hot it will try to push the water away from the core.Remember that 20lbs is about 300degs and thats 90 degs above boiling. You might want to check temps real close all the way down the run.

Oh you are circulating the water .Your just using the outside tank as your storage tank .Gotchya

Looks good.

I'd be willing to bet that the water temperature does not even come close to the boiling point in the duration of one pass. 300 intake temps does not mean 300 degree water temperatures.

I would also , seeing how the core in in cased in water twice , also all material is aluminum so it will pull the heat out nicely , looks good Tony

If the water wasn't being pumped through the core then you could bet yer *** it would boil. And i bet he is running a bit more than 20lbs..

Tony call me I lost your number
Oh yeah did you get that silicon bronze thing ok?

youd really think id boil....maybe after an extend period of time driving but not for a drag race...i just cant imagine enough heat being transfered out of the unit itself just through the core to have enough energy to boil the water the core itself was sitting in...

my thoughs behind that would be because youd be pullin less heat out of the charge and just letting it bypass to the motor in effect have no intercooler...if anything it be slighty hotter iat's due to the increase restriction of the core...than just a straight pipe no ic

just my 2 cents

Well, i'm sure someone smarter than me can calculate it. how long would it take to boil 3 gallons of ice cold water, when exposed to 350-400 deg. air? I doubt it would happen in 8 seconds!

Sorry, i don't have any pics of the core, it came from precision with the end tanks already welded on.

thats pretty badass, however i think you should take off the 6 inch cap and replace it with a 6 inch subwoofer

The subs are in the trunk, facing the trunk, not the driver, cause it hits harder that way. Everybody knows that...

On a few Ford Lightnings that we've done ice box's on, during a 3rd gear pull on the dyno they'll go from 33* ice water to 90* by the end of the pull (around 5 seconds).

No I don't mean boil all of the water. When something gets hot enough it pushs the water away from it.Because its so hot.The water could be 40degs after the run but the core would get up to 200.But thats if he WASN'T pumping it through.
The way Tony has it is badass. But I have seen lots of guys take air to air cores and slap some sides on them and the water just sits in it.

Is that deal on gas or alcohol?
