Default 92 Prelude Rearview Mirror button removal?

Looking to possibly change the OEM mirror in my 1992 Prelude, to one of those compass/temp mirrors, however the attachment for the OEM mirror is not the regular button you see in a lot of cars, have any of you ever removed this strange mirror holder? It almost looks like it might be attached inside the glass, so if you try to remove it the glass might break?
Thanks,
Robert

I think it's glued very tight to the windshield.

It got a metal clip that hold the plastic piece on it normally breaks when you take it off.

you might want to try a solvent that will react to the glue but not the glass. Ask a windshield replacement company what they use.

I know this thread has been archived for some time but I thought I could help.
The rearview windshield mirror is attached with a glue that is solid at any temp. below 800 degrees. To get it off, you need to take a torch to the outside of the glass for about 10 seconds. It will melt the glue and the mirror will come right off. Reverse the process to put a new one on.
