NASA-SE @ Road Atlanta March 17-18
Ok, who all is planning on attending RA? Repave should make for some fast times. Plus almost all spots for DE are sold out so looks like there will be alot of folks there. Wes

Allan if you run H2 we will have at least one per class. And I sure hope the track looks good, I gotta make up for my poor performance there last year.

Me and my sedan will be there in DE 2. W00t 1st time at RA, I wish I could have made it before they repaved it to feel the differences, but oh well, can't wait.
Im ready to leave!!!! Im soo excited. I didnt even sleep last night packing up the CRX. I guess I dont leave til after 5pm when I get out of work and the day is moving sooo slow! See you all at the track tomorrow.
I was just at RA last weekend with BMWCCA. The new surface at RA is pretty awesome. Doesnt have a lot of rubber in it, but still has a lot of grip.
1,2,3 are all pretty much the same. 1 Has a lot of grip all the way to the outside. Entry to 1 is wierd as always until you find new braking marker.
Turn 4 (left hander into the right hand esses) has a spaced out series of ripples in it that really move the car when at speed. A lot of stiff racecars and the 911s especially had to countersteer a bit to keep the car in shape at full tilt unlike before. I think they are going to repair this section because in the rain or under race conditions it would probably bump a car over into another if side by side.
While the width of the track in the esses is the same, the walls have been moved out significantly giving a much wider visual affect. It takes a session to get use to it. Still very easy to destroy a car there
The transition thru turn 5 isnt as treacherous due to inconsitencies in the pavement (concrete/asphalt) are gone but there is a dip going into it that is more noticeable on stiffly sprung/low cars. 1 car was actually bottoming out there sending spraks. I think its much faster and you can be really agressive with the throttle on exit because of the grip. The wide painted gators on the right side eixt of 5 are still there as always slippery and unchanged.
Turn 6 seems to have lost some camber but still quick. I was turning in earlier as were most people. I think I use to use the last set of white strips and they are still there but too far into the entry I think.
7 has a lot of grip and you can carry alot of speed and really hit the inside apex and track out.
10a and 10b doesnt seem to be as tight and 10a still has a little dip in the braking zone as before. All the same really. However, I seem to be braking earlier than before just after 200ft mark - maybe because there is no rubber at the 200 to 100 mark as before? I was doing 150ft in october i believe.
12 has more grip than ever before and you can fly around there. For the first time I was carrying so much speed into t1 i was about to hit the rev limiter in 4th gear if I didnt lift slightly before my brake zone. It has a lot more room to the right side as well.

Ok guys, I am looking forward to seeing everyone out there. Almost didn't make it cause of engine problems but gonna run it anyway. I'm looking for a DE1 instructor that runs FWD, I was placed with a RWD instructor for all but the last session when I ran at Rockingham and then James Chase rode with me for my last session and told/showed me how to run a FWD at the Rock. Made a huge difference even if it was only one session. I am heading out of Florence tomorrow, mid morning. See y'all there. Wes
Ok, WOW!! I hope everyone had as much fun as I did! I had no idea that the downhill going into 12 was soo steep. I am definitly looking forward to running it again in August. Camped in a tent overlooking turns 10A&B and was shown alot of hospitality
by the Georgia Mazda RX-8 club guys that were camping in a trailer there also. My instructor, David Thackery, was very knowlegeable about RA and I learned ALOT about the line and car control from him. So much so that I was catching a Z06 in the curves after he left me in the straights
. Thanks, Wes
