18's? Daily driver on Civic
I searched for a similar topic but didn't find info.
I'm most driving from school, work, home, some canyon driving with friends and wanted to upgrade my wheels from stockers. I had a set of 15" Slipstreams w/ Kumho's but wanted a different look. Is there any problems running 18's on a Civic besides a rougher ride? I know the weight will make the car slower, I'm using the rota Subzero (18lbs.).
Or should I just get a set of C8's in 15's with some stickey tires?
Thanks
Rob

worse gas-mileage, more road noise.. besides that, there shouldnt be a problem, expecially if like the "jacked up" look
IMO, C8's on Azenis

If you like to show, get a big rim.
If you like performance, get a smaller rim.
I've had 18"'s on my 1999 civic si, I liked them. They were Volk te37's...sure the ride is rougher, but you get what you get.
I now have a 93 civic hatch, and I'm going to get 16's possibly 15's because I want more performance and it's less expensive and better ride quality due to the tire sidewall being larger...

i know a person that is running 18's on a hatch, and that car rubs so much you can barely turn the wheel, looks cool, but i wouldnt do it. It rubs all over the place, bad gas mileage, and messes up your speedo.

Thanks for the replys,
The reason I wanted to go with 18's is the price, just $200 more than 16's. I called the shop and put my order on hold and might go with Subzero's in a 15 or 16. A few friends suggested 18's but I still like the small rim look.
Do you know if I should go with 15's or 16's for a stiffer side wall.
Thanks again

Your 18s are going to rub around turns and on bumps but besides that if you like the look of 18s then put them on, im more of a JDM guy but im not going to down anybody no matter what they do to there car. Go with the 18s keep the 15s for the track. Do you really care if it ***** with your speedometer a little, so what if your doing 60 and it sais 63 or 64. Dont listen to anyone else if they say 18s are for ricers. OH AND IF ANYBODY EVEN CALLS ME A RICER CAUSE I LIKE 18s YOU BETTER LOOK AT MY MODS and MY NAME. GOOD LUCK with your 18s, peace
Thanks for the replys.
I found a pretty good price for the 18's so I'll give them a try. My car is lowered about 1~" so it's not dropped too much, hopefully rubbing won't be too much. With the prices of Rotas, I'll be sure to pick up a set incase I really don't like the 18's.
Thanks

I would think about brake work. Thats alot of wheel for your stock brakes to stop. It may be alright most of the time, but if you had to slam on brakes you might not stop as fast. good luck!
I have brakes waiting to be installed. Nothing special, Powerslot rotors, AEM pads and Goodridge SS lines. As for the wheels I'm still waiting for the tires to come in so I might just switch to 15/16 (cheaper too).

Tires for 18's are ALOT more expensive than for 15's or even 16's. Try finding a good set of 18" tires for $300 or less, not gonna happen.
I've had 18's on my civic before, it is possible. Make sure you roll your fenders and bang back the frame seam inside the front fender. 18's will look like poo unless your car is low and your tuckin up in the fender. The only downside is losing 1/2 your tuning radius. Bling Bling
IMO, 15's or 16's not only look more suitable on civics...but they are more convenient to drive around...whether it be making U- turns or driving down a bumpy street...i know plenty of 15"/16" rims that look better than any 18's...it much easier on the wallet too...go w/ the 15 inchers

Austin Powers turn, HA! Now that is freakin' hilarious.
18's are a bit much, I have 17's now and they look great, but can't wait to get some light 15's. But man, my 17's love the twisties!
Got these

If you want a bigger wheel look, but want it to fit get some 17" wheels. Nothing wrong with 17's, but I would personally stay away from the 18" wheels on a civic. I once put a set of 18" rims with 215/35 on my Sol just to check it out, and it rubbed pretty hard when making full turns and hard corners. Everybody was cheesing when they looked at them, but thats all they are for is looks. I would never buy a set for everyday driving. I own 14's, 15" Si wheels, had a set of 16"s, and numerous sets of 17's. I like 17's (styles with a polished lip) personally because thats the look I'm into. In some areas 17's are even pushing it on the streets, but get a nice suspension setup and some reputable wheels that are made strong, and you'll be fine.
Keep in mind some styles (especially the subzero) don't look as big as they actually are, because the way the spokes curve into the lip.
Styles change with time (AKA wheel size). They always will, but remember its your money so get what you really want.
