my girlfriend just bought a 98 accord, the engine has been shutting off when driving, just out of the blue, Im pretty confident its the ignition switch, because i can barely wiggle it and the engine will die.

my ? is i found a recall on the switch, will a honda dealer still cover this?
she is not the original owner.
and the recall was made in 02

also if i replace it my self, will i have to get the keys programmed before the car will start?

 

needs to have the VIN status inquiry run to find out if the recall has been done.

i had the same problem. the dealer here gave me so much trouble that i just said nevermind and went ahead and purchased it. since they gave me so much trouble i had them do all the work and labor for free.

 

Call a dealer, have your VIN to tell them. Any dealer can look up whether that recall applies to your particular car, and whether it has already been done, or whether it's expired. Recalls apply to the car, it doesn't matter that she isn't the original owner.
