Default Beveled edge on pipe

When you guys cut pieces for manifolds that werent purchased with bevels what tools do you use to bevel the edges?

Or those of you that increase bevel angle or bevel depth, what are you using?

oh ok, i didnt know if there was some sort of tool that you could load in a pipe that made a perfect even edge. Thank you.

im sure it could be done on some sort of a machine but if thats what people normally do thats fine by me.

I have been using a 6" grinder for all of my manifolds thus far, but I think I will end up switching to a belt sander. The grinder just leaves so much dust.

i know. I stock up heavily. I now have 2 chop saws, one for cutting and one for beveling. This allows me not to be tempted to cut a pipe with a severly worn out thin blade

RPM's alone can shatter a blade

i understand all this man, I am not a newbie. But I do know the chance is there and it HAS happened a few years ago. Someday next year when I am graduated from college, making steady money, i will fork out money for a nice band saw to cut I am a 18 credit hour full time university college student @ home just trying to make it.

Its like $40 bucks for a bench grinder.

I just don't understand some of the logic, I had a grinder wheel ( 6 inch ) explode not even at full speed and that was pretty dangerous for no reason. I would imagine a chop saw disc would be worse.

I had a 4in diameter 1/4 thick wheel explode and a piece hit me smack in the tip of my dick. I'll admit it. I cried.

, all I know is when mine exploded it was not even at full speed and I stopped and felt my face to make sure I was not covered in blood. The thud it made from hitting the work bench sounded like a bomb went off.

f*ck you dicksucker. I know what we are talking about. But me and the other guy were talking about them exploding when the cutting disk gets thin. So i said, once i get the money, i will get a band saw to do the cutting to no big risks.

carry on

Ive had chop saw blade explode on me luckily I was wearing safety glasses but i took a good chunk to the chest. Chop saw blades are not safe even with minor damage

If your doing enough manifolds invest in a pipe belever

not cheap by anymeans the last one I saw at an auction went 500+ used

really? I would have thought the belt wouldn't leave as much debris from the actual belt, as the grind stone leaves. Hrm. I've used these huge belt sanders at my work, and they always seem to be less messy than the grinder. Granted it's all mild steel, not stainless.

Let me spell this out for you then.

You have a chop saw.
You cut AND bevel with it.
Beveling makes the blade thinner.
Thinner blades explode(more often).
Big Bob points out ^this^ fact.

Right about here is when you should have said, "I'll buy *insert generally accepted and safer method of beveling pipe here* when I'm done with college"

But no you say that you will "buy a band saw when I'm done with college"

No one ever said that the chop saw was somehow unsafe for cutting pipe... only for beveling it. If you are confused at this point I suggest you re-read the thread. Clearly, there was no reason for you to state that you will purchase an alternative cutting method in the near future as we were discussing the inherit danger in beveling pipe with a chop saw not cutting pipe.

In addition you stated that you have TWO chop saws. One to bevel and one to cut with. Since an angle grinder actually costs less than a chop saw you have actually spent more money to do the job in a less safe manner.

In the future if you deem it necessary to call someone out at least make a small attempt to be in the right.
