My friends 96 accord 4cl auto was driving fine until yesterday. When it warms up and you put it in drive the rpms get higher but it doesn't go anywhere. It also has a funny whine/scratching noise coming from the tranny area around the solenoids. So here is what I am thinkin..... the solenoids are getting to hot when warming up and not actuating. Can anyone help with wire diagrams or how to test these solenoids. I have found four so far on the top of the tranny. Any help would be great.

im having the same problem but my car will go in reverse but not forward? not sure what it is and ive asked a few friend and im getting to answers either my tranny is shot or my axles are bad... but im not sure if anybody has an idea id like to know.....

 

most likely the trans is shot unless the axle popped out.

 

Is the CEL on?

I hate to break it to you..but if you say your tranny is whinning like it is when u put it into drive..its the tranny..you midaswell drop it and replace it..I had this problem about 3 months ago and I tried everything to fix it..but i just had to replace the tranny..I tired draining the fluid and everything..nothing worked...so my advice is go to a junkyard and get a decent looking tranny and replace it...its fairly simple to do..should only take about 5-8 hours depending on if u know what your doing or not...whens the last time you flushed your tranmission?

 

btw if your axles were bad..it still would drive you would just have some bad noises..unless they were both snapped in half..my tranny was the same way..it would go into reverse and thats it..ur tranny is shot my friend sorry

 

I may have a spare Auto tranny for sale. If my wifes friend doesn't buy it in the next week I'll sell it to you. Let me know if you are interested.
