Default My H23 vtec dyno

I ended up going to the dyno to see what my engine is putting down
hears the set up:

h23 vtec
f22 crank & rods with gsr rod bolts
type-s pistons
ported, milled head
ported intake manifold & 74mm throttle body
oem valve train
oem automatic cams
oem airbox
oem 2"resinator and muffler
no cat
chipped p28 with a street tune from Chris @ Xeocron
also switch to colder #8 plugs on the dyno

note: when street tuning with the oem equipment the car never reached the last colum of the fuel and timing maps. so the engine is not seeing maximun air flow due to the oem airbox and exhaust.

we have the limiter set to 7700rpms untill i open her up. it pulls hard up their so i might let her rev to 8200 rpms with a better header and exhaust

just wanted to share this with you guys

the stock exhaust and the auto cams are holding it back
the red run is with the stock airbox and filter along with the stock exhaust
the green run is with the intake arm disconected
and the blue run is with added fuel pressure + disconected intake arm

Sweet! Get a good intake and header, along with a retune, and you will def. be above 200hp. Nice job, man.

Thanks for sharing! That's not bad for OEM parts. Stock header? Did you re-bush the rods or just run the floating pins straight in the steel rod end? I've heard of people going either way. Was it an H22 block that you started with? Sounds like quite a sleeper with the stock exhaust. Good luck on future mods.

thanks. its a megan header with stock 2"muffler and resinator(restrictive style with the pockets that grab the air)
and they rebrushed the rod ends
next week i going to toss the 97 auto cams away and put some jdm cams and a extra camgear on it and zero both of them out(running a milled head)
and get a full dyno tune. see what se come up with before i chop off the muffler

Well here is a good exersise on stock H/F parts. Some type s cams sounds like it should help out as far as OEM goes.

There is a way to add IAB to the P28 ECU's. That would get you a little more below 4k. Keep us posted on your further upgrades!

i thinking about a exhaust cutout, jdm cams and a k&n drop in filter.
i am really going to try for 200whp with the cutout closed

i just recieved my other camgear(finally after two months)
matts cams should arrive tommorow and i have my k&n drop in filter coming on thursday.
THis is the first time i built a engine and intentionally kept it quiet. i was browsing the dyno of other h22's all with intake, header, exhaust, some with cams some without and i was suprised to see that i am still making more torque than most of them expecially since this was only a base line dyno pull.
if i finish up by friday then i will try and get on dyno time and a tuner to see if i can make it over 200whp. (its going to be hard siince the stock airbox is really restrictive)

187 with as much restrictions as you have...that makes me happy

On the dyno, with the cam gears, cams...we should be able to flatten that torque curve and move the power band up a little higher in the rev range

I will be back from vaca on Monday, give me a call then Jason and thanks for the props

If you're trying to find non-Type S cams to use, look for SH cams since they run a little more lift. The valvesprings in SH heads are of diff length though.

just curious, why are you surprised to see that you are making as much tq as a h22?

also why switch to a colder plug? you should be running a 6 or maybee a 7 at most w/ that setup.

woot, get those cams in

stroke + compression = FTW

this thing makes good torque from 5-7k, lets see how the jdm cams do

with the stock running gear on it. i am suprised.

and with 12.6:1 compression and a restrictive exhaust i would rather go 8 just to be safe
