Default Help: Running too rich CEL PO172

I threw a CEL for a too rich mixture. I cleared the CEL thinking it was a once a time deal b/c of the cold weather. The CEL never reappeared but my car has been using fuel excessively (shouldn't the CEL reappear if the problem is still persistant?)

Car drives fine when warm but mileage has dropped significantly, 290 on a tank to about 250. There's also an unusually high about of carbon on the rear bumper (clear sign of richness).

Has anyone ran across this prob on there 5th gen? What's areas should I trouble shoot?

sounds like your running to rich. pull the vacume line off the fuel regulater. look and see if there is any fuel in the vacume line. that would indicate that the regulater is bad. also 02sensor could cause the same prob.
