h23 or h22
it currently has 212,000 miles on it and is just sittin in my driveway right now. it wont run cause it currently has a bad starter. but i was thinkin bout rebuilding my h23 or buyin a h22 and modding that up. but since someone brought the idea of puttin a h22 head on it i was wondering what does the head do for the engine
The head, in a good build, gives you teh VTAK's higher RPM power.
A rebuild with an H22 head holds quite a yield in both torque and power, but you need to know what you are doing if you want a motor that won't blow any time soon. Our FAQs and the official H23 VTEC thread can shed more light on that. It would make life easier to just go with an H22...but it's all up to what you feel is the right direction for you.

First, this is a rerun topic. It's been covered quite a few times before.
Second, if you intend to only swap a stock H22 into your car without many more modifications, then I would say keep the H23 and build it.
If you rebuild with JDM H22 pistons, some stage 2 Crower cams and make sure you have a few other nice bolt-ons including a DC header with 2.5" collector mod and good exhaust. Then tune it and you will have the power of a run of the mill H22 with more torque for less money. You will have a different car than most others and have gained an intimate knowledge of your car.
If you intend to continue dumping money into your car with a specific power goal in mind (above 200whp) then get the H22. It has better aftermarket support than the H23 and the VTEC cam availibility with streetable idle will win out quick but ultimately will be more expensive.
IMO torque is nice in a daily driver.

the h23/vtec head is a nice build! i have a friend that did that in his 98 prelude and its pulls nice... just rebuild the motor and put the vtec head on and you'll be happy for a long time!
