Painting your gay ass molding
Can anyone tell me how to paint your own molding? I'm sick of seeing the black crap on my car and want to make it white. Anyone have suggestions on how to go about doing it? I dont want to take it to a body shop cuz I know they will charge me a arm and a leg. So if you have done it before and got pics and some info then post.
tape up the areas outside of the moldings with masking tape and newspaper and then paint it and clear coat it... that should work... kinda ghetto though... most bodyshops only charge around 100 to paint them...
Man becareful painting your own. Remember it is spray paint we're talking about and it's easy to **** up badly. Have you tried talking to most body shops for price? I'd be surprised if they charge that much. I mean it would only take a few mins of their time.
The method given above is the correct way to do it and to make it look decent. The clear coat is the important part.

I used a can of color matched paint from an auto paint shop to paint my mouldings. It looks decent, but you can definitely tell it isn't a professional paint job, and the paint is starting to flake off a little around the edges after just a year. It's just to difficult to get a good finish without the proper spray gun, a dust free paint booth, and some previous experience painting.
I would suggest removing the moulding, lightly hand sanding them with some wet 400 grit paper until the surface is perfectly smooth, then clean the surface good with acetone and spray on a few thin coats of plastic primer (not standard primer) while letting it dry between coats. After that has dried good for a day, lightly wet sand it again to smooth it out and clean it one last time with acetone. Drop the mouldings off at the body shop and give them your car's paint code. This should cost considerably less than just taking your car to a body shop, and you know the prep work has been done properly.
