Default Worse mileage on highway than in city

Anyone have some insight on this? City driving, shift at 3k. Highway= 75-80mph. Mixture of city + highway I get 360-375 miles to a tank, but I def know I get fewer miles on highway.

Try using 5th gear. It'll keep you out of VTEC at 75

haha
Off topic a little but I'm kind of worried about that (short gearing=highway vtec) if I did an NA build for a Lude using the h22a tranny. Haven't searched yet, haven't posted a thread yet so don't shoot.
Just an idea for a project I guess.

What is your MPG that your getting?? That does seem like a lot on a tank.. If it is, why worry?

how do you people drive so long without hitting vtec? i tried doing it for a week once, couldnt do it. plus at 75-80, you're at a constant 3-3.5k rpm...that'll use more gas. drive slower, 65 mph

Well I didn't want someone to ask why I wished they did, but now that I have a fellow supporter I guess its okay.
Yes, they should have been. Every REAL streetracer car has six gears, duh.
hahahaha I had to. No but really...

^^I'll support that all day! :D Even though 6th would probably never be reached on a track car... Unless the gears were a lot shorter than even the real Prelude trannys.. Mythological Hx6 Tranny FTW!

80mph = 4k rpm. Would that be the reason then? I know drag increases very quickly after a certain speed: 60mph?

get a new honda oem o2 sensor. even if its not throwing a code it might be plugged, or just old.

Both the o2 sensors? How would a bad o2 sensor specifically affect the highway mileage more than city? At what mileage do they tend to get plugged up?

It could be telling your ECU to feed more fuel to the engine..

Looking at the number of posts you have, I'm sure you have done a simple tune-up as well as check tire pressures right? Not trying to criticize, just trying to throw something out there that you could have possibly overlooked, but I that you have done so. lol pretty newbie of me, but 91+ octane right?

You should drive at 72mph on the highway. It is the best speed in my opinion because it is not too slow and it will still give decent gas mileage and use the CRUISE CONTROL if you still have it in your car. It really stabilizes ur speed on the highway. No more constant accelerating and decelerating up and down...

I'm not sure you can quantify this without an onboard displaying telling you your MPG or having a multiple samples with the variables all being the same. I take the same route every week but sometimes I run into more lights, sometimes more of the stops are at lights are going uphill. So my mileage varies with luck too.

I'm also in the weird MPG. I've tried driving 65mph on a long trip and 85mph going back. I only got .2 better MPG going 65mph but this doesn't make any sense to me. Higher RPMS and more drag and some how I basically got the same MPG. I think my other variables were constant but I'm sure there is something we are overlooking
