No, the one's over on PreludeUK are fully functional replacements, unlike the plugs from lightfaster.com

even if it was still functional, that cf would just replace the metal cover on the original sunroof. you aren't saving much weight because you have to remove all the brackets/sliders/covers crap that makes it all weigh that much.

by the looks of it, all it is is a cf plug that's screwed in

The point is to replace the sunroof with something that doesn't rust, and isn't heavier than the stock one i.e. glass 5th gen roof. We've all seen the plugs which are available, but we didn't want to loose the functionality of the sunroof opening .

Sorry to resurrect and old thread, but a few people asked me to post an update on these functioning carbon fibre sunroof's we were getting manufactured in the UK.
The prototype arrived the other day, and after a pretty easy swap with the OEM steel panel, here are some pics of the finished article.

It weighs in around 3kg, opposed to the OEM panel which was 4.5 - 5kg, so a little weight saving advantage, but it works like stock and will never rust

true itll never rust, but arent u just swapping problems. from rust + slight weight disadvantage to always having to buff out to keep the CF from oxidizing? just a thought

It looks hot. But I wouldn't trade my 5th gen glass for anything...

I'll stick to my glass roof and swapping glass on the 4g. That's kind've overkill IMO. I like seeing out the top without opening it.

We've had them made by a reputable CF manufacturer, who only use grade A Carbon fibre with 2 coats UV resistant laquer, so oxidisation isn't any more of a problem than on a CF hood etc.

I assume the 5th Gen glass moonroof conversion also comes with the sliding cover, or are you stuck with the constant glare of the sun through the glass all the time? We looked at the 5th Gen conversion, but weren't to keen on adding more weight to the roof etc.

We've paid £160 in the group buy, which works out around $320, so is actually cheaper than just a CF plug which is $370.

Umm. I lost the slider cover. I think I saw someone have the glass + slider but I just don't see how they did it.

Glare really isn't an issue though as it comes pretty tinted from the factory... It hasn't bothered me yet...

Guys, I have received a LOT of IM about these sunroofs. Just to let people know, I just arranged the group buy over on PreludeUK, and don't actually sell these or anything. However, I have spoken with the company who arranged their manufacture for us, and they tell me that they are willing to sell them to anyone who wants one and could even set up a US group buy if required. For anyone that's interested, just email Simon at trls@delsoluk.com
