95 Accord, reving at idle and overheating
I have a 95 Accord EX (automatic). I live in Ohio and we just got hit with a good amount of snow, I was driving around in a lower gear yesterday to get some traction. Today I notice that my car revs at idle and also when I slow down to stop it will rev and try to go forward. I literally have to slow about into place and throw it into park or it will keep going forward. I also notice that the temp gauge is straight up to the top (hot), and it appears to be overheating after just a few mins of driving. I checked the coolant level and it is fine.
Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help!

T-stat stuck maybe? the upper and lower radiator hoses should be about the same temp after the engine has run for the gauge to show heat 1/2 way.
Are the radiator cooling fans coming on?

As far as the revving goes, it could be ice screwing up things. Could you have your car in a warm garage overnight? It may help with problems. Or you could go around de-icing under the hood with alcohol, etc.
The gauge problem could be just a short someplace. Try disconnecting the wire coupler from the sender -- the skinny thing under the distributor -- and see what happens.

thanks for the replies guys. I also noticed today that the heating system inside of the car is not working. I have no idea if all of these are related, but Im ready for spring, lol.

After changing thermostat, keep checking the level. It would be good to know the reason why - were did your coolant go...
After filling & bleeding air, you can check by squeezing the radiator hoses when it's cold. They feel different, & you'll hear sloshing when there's air.
