90 accord Starting issues
i just bought my 90 accord it has the f22 in it, lately every second or third start it won't fire. to give an example i started it at work drove about 10 min to a gas station and it wouldn't start. now if i let it sit for awhile (no set time it seems) it will eventually start. any ideas?
No silver bullet for this problem; try to always turn the key on and wait for the Check engine lite to go off, to let the fuel rail get to full pressure. That gives a better injector spray, for easier ignition. On a short hop warm start the Temp might just be fooling the ECU into 'thinking' cold start, but the engine is really wanting hot start conditions. The new owners manuals suggest holding the gas pedal 1/2 way to allow more air in, on these short hop restarts.
If you think the engine is getting a flooded condition, try holding the gas pedal to the floor to shut down injector pulse when cranking.
If you always use the exact same start procedure with the fuel pressure, and you can find if the car will start at 1/2 pedal, it will be easier to diagnose a recurring symptom.
FWIW the main relay in that model is a known trouble maker but usually in hot outdoor temps.
A cheapo test light would allow you to check that the ignition switch is sending power to the coil thru the Black/yellow wire at the dist. housing.

just a note. i have a 87 accord lxi that i just got from a girl who said she had the same problems you did. i checked for spark (ok), and fuel (not ok). thought it was fuel pump due to no fuel at either side of the fuel filter. long story short..replaced the main relay and fired right up.
