Wheel and tire size?
hey folks.
this is my first post to the forum. i have a 1993 civic ex that i'd like to start modifying/upgrading. i want to start off lowering it 2" with coilovers then put on new wheels. I've asked a few people and for my 1993, people suggest I put 16" wheels and a 205/45/16 tires. I prefer to put on 17" wheels. Will this fit? If so, what size tires can I put on without it hitting and/or rubbing?
btw, i've done some searches on this topic in the forum but i couldn't find anything that dealt with a 92-95 civics.
thanks in advance for your help. this is a great site.

The 205/45-16 size you originally mentioned is too big for a '93 Civic. People probably mentioned it because it's the correct 16" size for an Integra or a '97-00 Civic.
I recommend getting 205/40-16 on 16x7 wheels, and NOT the 17" size. The 17" size (205/40-17) is more likely to rub, because its diameter is larger than the 205/40-16. The problem with 17" tires on your car is that 205/40-17 is the smallest commonly-available 17" size tire.
You could also get 15" wheels with 195/50-15 tires.

For wheels, or for tires?
If for tires, do you ever drive them in snow? (Probably not, in California.) And is this just for daily driving, or also for autocross or possibly racetrack?
If it's just for daily driving and you don't drive them in snow, it's pretty hard to go wrong with the Kumho SPT ($72/tire in 205/40-16 at the Tire Rack). Very good dry traction, excellent in rain, and last a reasonably long time.

yes, for both wheels and tires. We never drive in the snow in Cali:-) I'll check out the Kumho's
what would you recommend for wheels? I hear a lot of Rota's and Drag's. Any other brands that have good 16" wheels.

for tires go with the Kumho SPT, it is the best bang for the buck tire. Truely an amazing tire. I like rota's the c8 are nice. I was going to go with the c8 or konig helium but now I would go with the enkei rpf1 they are hot!
