If i were to guess, which i am, it is made out of aluminum. Nissin makes spoon calipers which are aluminum and nissin is also the manufaturer of our calipers. why?

I'm going to start grinding my calipers smooth before I hi-temp paint and clear them and I want to do it a little at a time. Grind one weekend and paint when it gets a warmer outside to cut down on down time. thanks for the input.....

If you want that high-temp paint to stick even better, use a galvanizing primer. Spray can.
